ATTN: CAPT. SKYBLADE

I just thought you might like to know that your new site still just shows up as one color
on netscape.

I looked at it in Explorer, and it looks great, but none of the links work.

Yes, this problem has been brought to my attention by a few of the Netscape users here at the boards. Netscape it the curse of universe! 😉

I'm going to attempt re-making the Saber Studios webpage with GoLive, in which Netscape should have no problems with. Visual Page (the web designing application I'm currently using) has been acting quite strange lately. The links that I added last night don't work either, so I don't have much choice...

Thanks for addressing the situation.

I suggest Dreamweaver. It hasn't given me any problems.

Sorry, I don't like WYSIWYG editors at all. If you hand code it it would work with all with no problems...

I used it for about a month until I got rid of it. 😉 Very user unfriendly, I much prefer GoLive.

I'm thinking about getting BBEdit. EVula uses it, and highly recommends it as well. Any word on the price range concerning the program?

Full Bbedit is $99. Lite version (that I use and works perfectly) is free.

The reason to get the full is if you are using it to program various languages and want to take advantage of indentation and knowing what you're talking about. Lite is fine for HTML, CGI, javascript, python, perl, etc.

It cost me $20 to get started (d/loaded the free program, and bought a $20 dollar HTML book). If you know HTML or are fine with online reference for the commands, then it costs nothing to get started.

I've actually started using BBEdit Lite a bit myself in OS X. Simple Text in X isn't nearly as good as in Classic, and Text Edit isn't manual code entry, so I find BBEdit Lite works great for coding stuff.

Just spend time on it. To do fancy things you need to have a good working knowledge of HTML, and at least know where to copy from with the Javascript. 😉

Yeah, I like it. And I'm using it under OS9!

It's great for Python, HTML, you name it.

I already know HTML (and might have javascript down before long), so learning the language isn't a problem. I prefer to build my websites visually, and then edit out any unecessary code. Does BBEdit make a good visual website creator?

I'm assuming I can find BBEdit at downloads.com. I looked awhile back and found the 6.5 version, but it was a demo of the full application...

I used simpletext for a while. Then BBedit, and then some other editor that color-codes html like BBedit; I can't remember the name. All the while I scorned and made fun of people who used WYSIWYG editors, calling them wimps.

That was when I actually had "free time." 😛

Hehe. Free time becomes harder and harder to come by as time progresses...

As for BBEdit, is it very powerful in general terms?

BBedit is the epitome of all that is powerful text editting.

Let's see... Page Mill... I believe that is a program you use to find bad links and errors in your website. In other words, a "perfection" program. I have it, but I can't remember if this is the correct program I'm thinking of (since I haven't used it in awhile). Adobe already has a web application anyway (GoLive), so I wouldn't think they'd make two seperate programs designed for the same thing...

Actually, PageMill is a full WYSIWYG HTML editor, although I think it's older than GoLive. Personally, I never touch anything other than SimpleText for HTML editing.

You can find the Lite (and the full) version at (url="http://"http://www.barebones.com")http://www.barebones.com(/url) .

No, it doesn't do things visually, it's just a text editor. Using a text editor is the way to make sure it looks good on all the browsers because just you know exactly what code is in there and no stupid things are put in along with the site (a major problem with some of your sites in the past, all that unnecessary fluff).

If I were you I'd use a combination of Dreamweaver and BBEdit, the two packages intergrate very well. BBEdit is good for setting up the basic structure of the page, and then you can add the complication elements with Dreamweaver, before optimizing it in BBEdit...

At least that's what we did when I worked for an ad agency in the web department.

That would be an idea...

Alright, I'm going to give GoLive a try on a new website. I didn't buy the program for a few hundred dollars just to let it sit on my hard drive. 😉 It's rather easy to use for the complicated things that it can do, so it's worth a shot. Wish me luck, as I don't have major experience with GoLive...

By the way, (url="http://"http://tmgmedia.net/glassblower/")this(/url) is a website I made for some friends in Gatlinburg (EVula knows where that is ;)) using GoLive. I let my brother do the double-rollovers, but that was about it. I had no idea how to make double-rollovers at the time anyway. 😉
