FailText not showing, EV 1.0.5

Anyone else experienced this problem?

Mission is set to no-abort. I go out, fail the mission intentionally, it gets marked with a dot etc.. I go to the ReturnStel, and instead of getting the FailText and the mission going away entirely, I get nothing, the mission doesn't go away, but apparently the FailBit has been set, because I get the next mission when I go to the bar.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? If need be, I can work around, but still...

Hmm... I'll have to go check my plug now, I'm using some stuff like that. I'll let you know if mine works.

I asked about this same topic months ago; got a couple of shrugs in response, but no real answer. Someone suggested that FailBits do work successfully in EVO (some kind of Zidagar mission, not sure which, don't know much about Override) but no one knew of a similar success in EV. Lots of luck. I'm interested to see what Macavenger says.

I'm not 100% sure, but I belive that is a known and unfixed bug. I'd try not to use it if at all possible, but expirament with it. Sometimes my RefuseText doesn't work, sometimes it does.

I've never got FailTexts to work in any of my plugs - usually with the same results as you, WickedDyno.

Note to self: that's 3 depressing posts in ten minutes.

Sigh OK, I guess I'll have to just assume that the player, if he fails, will reload his pilot file to try again, and make the mission less easy to fail -- which, paradoxically, will make it more difficult.

This will affect Final Battle, too...

Do they work right in EVO 1.0.2? They had better frickin' work in EV:N!

Ja, they're right - FailText was never successfully implemented under EV. Failbitsets are critical to one mission in the Zidagar thread of EVO, so I assume that it's at least partially working there. I do recall a mission in The Frozen Heart which was supposed to fail (a time limit) but when it did, only activated the FailBitSet, not the FailText.

Martin Turner got around it by telling the character to check the bar for his comrade and making a second auto-abort mission keyed to the FailBitSet available at the destination.

Sadly, it appears true that FailText doesn't work at all in EV. FailBitSet does work, but not the text, I tested it in my plug too. Now I'll haveto go figure out how to rework mine... I've used it more than just once, and auto abort may not work well. :frown:

!!!

Simple and elegant. An idea well worth stealing—er, emulating.

Just tried EVO, and FailText doesn't work in that either. :frown: Hopefully it will in Nova.

Arggh!!!

Well, I suppose this is good information for inclusion in the next revision of the annotated Bible... Perhaps we should go over to the Nova board and ask them to check for sure... The workaround used in Frozen Heart isn't bad, but it ought to work. I guess it is just so rarely used that no one ever reported to MB that it wasn't working.
