Since Maelstrom, eh? Wow, glad to see another veteran! 😉

About plugins, I currently don't need anything tested at the moment, but you can be sure there are always people looking for good beta testers.

Speaking of which, I bid you welcome to the Ambrosia forums.

So, have you ever actually created plugins before, or just tested them?

Hmmm, that can always be a problem. You're likely to find many people at the Ambrosia forums that can do graphics for you, and I could even do a few for you if you like. Or swing by (url="http://"http://www.saberstudios.f2s.com")Saber Studios(/url) to see if you can find anything of use.

Sorry to inturpt the conversation between you two, but usually when people need beta tester they will ask. This may be becasue a plugins are not finished very often and tester are easy to come by. Glad that you offered though, but I have no work ready for testing.

Good point. As I would guess less than 20% of plugins started are ever finished, testers are perhaps more numerous than tester vacancies... although advertising that you are available can't hurt.

I don't think that's entirely accurate. IMO, the number of reliable testers is very small. There seem to be plenty of people eager to get an early look at a plug, but very few willing to do the often tedious work of finding bugs and testing bug fixes. Of the five testers who agreed to test Mille Terrae (and three of those sought us out) only two testers bothered reporting bugs; only one of them continues to help us.

I agree with Mazca that it's easy to find someone willing to call him/herself a tester. It's more difficult to find someone willing to do actual testing.

My 2˘, FWIW.

Thank you for your cooperation. Good night.

I never have tested or asked people to test- I thought that reliable people would be easier to find. This really surprieses me. This maybe why Ambrosia has a closed beta; they get to pick people who they think are reliable.

Jon, you're right about the lack of reliable testers... I know from experience. If you recruit ten beta testers, they will break down into these categories:

A: 2 of them will play the entire plugin through and send you reports of problems , typos, etc. reasonably promptly. These are very useful.
B: 2 of them will SAY they played the plugin through, and send reports of bugs on missions that dont exist, or other reports that don't make sense. These people think you are stupid and will actually believe that they played the plugin through when they didn't.
😄 2 will send some bug reports, but not particularly in-depth. These are useful.
😧 4 of them will never be heard from again.

So, Squooshent, if it turns out you fit into category A, then you suddenly become rather valuable property as a tester. I do recommend you at least experiment a bit with plug making (Maybe make a small plug that adds a system, a new ship, a new weapon and a few missions? Or even just make yourself a cheater plug that makes things cheap.) as it will give you a better idea of how EV/EVO works for when you do test other plugins.

well i would like to say i would fit into "a". i have dabbled in making plugs, i always just fall into graphics and lack of time. but i play all plugs thru and would spend alot of time on it

Maybe you could help me when I try to (finally) get rid of the bugs that have been plaguing Final Battle for years, as I discuss in my "How not to develop EV plugs" thread.

Well I don't need testing yet but I will in, oh I dunno, a few months? maybe more?

Of course, if you wanna lend a hand in the creation of a plug-in... I'd love to have you along - so far it's been just me.
So if you want to help me with my plug-in, and you have some time available, email me at ChaosMan@sg1fans.net and I'll put you to work!

I have not done any testing. But I every time I get a new plugin I open it up and change everything to my specifications. First time I make a cheater for it. I am very expirenced with how things work. If anyone needs my services, give me a ring ataspisak@mac.com
