Phase Weapons Graphic Expansion Set released!

Well, I've been trying to get over the death of a friend from the World Trade Center destruction, so I believe spending some time on ten phase outfit graphics has helped me out.

The Phase Graphic Expansion Set comes complete with ten graphics (complete with sprites and masks), which include the phase cannon, phase turret, quad phase turret, swivel phase cannon, twin swivel phase cannon, turbophased cannon, turbophased turret, quad turbophased turret, swivel turbophased cannon, and twin swivel turbophased cannon (is that a long enough list? ;)). Graphics, as alwalys, have been rendered in 8-bit color, and are ready for download.

The Saber Studios banner image has also been updated, so be sure to swing by and post your thoughts here.

Thanks, and hope all you developers can find these graphics useful...

Very nice. I wonder if I can find a way to fit any of these into Talon 1.8.1... 🙂

By the way, I do have one suggestion: I think it would probably be more convenient for most people if you distributed your graphics in future as ResEdit files rather than individual PICT files, since they're ultimately going to end up in ResEdit anyway.

Thanks, glad to hear that. Feel free to use the graphics for whatever you think necessary.

ResEdit files? Hmmm... I've always been told that simply copying PICT files into ResEdit does the trick (from Simpletext). That's what I do, and it works out fine. What are the advantages to saving the graphics as ResEdit files?

Mechanisto can do that (and better).

Neat capt Skyblade. Why not package a whole graphics expansion for EVO? 😉

It does, though mine usually get copied from GC. 😉 Anyway, It just makes it a bit simpler for the end user, and wouldn't add much effort on your part, so it'd probably be best. I believe Matt Dailey's free graphics come in the form of ResEdit files.

(edit) Note: You can actually copy and paste in from pretty much any file type, I think, I did it from a JPEG once. It's just a matter of selecting it in the app and command C / command V. (/edit)

As a general policy, do you mind if people colour-shift your graphics? (ie. swap the channels to change the theme colours)

The advantage is more convenience than anything else - the end user doesn't have to worry about digging through quantities of PICT files, dragging them onto SimpleText or PictureViewer if they don't have Photoshop, looking up the spďn dimensions, etc.

Thanks Kwanzar. I do intend on creating a MAGMA-like package / set once I get enough graphics complete. Of course, my version certainly wouldn't be better than MAGMA, but it's worth a shot, eh?

Bingo. Thanks for the advice...

Alright then, if saving the graphics in ResEdit format really has that much of an advantage, then I'll begin saving future sets in that format. I've never saved graphics in ResEdit format, however... Do you do this simply by dragging PICT (or gifs and jpgs) into ResEdit, and saving them from there?

As for color-shifting graphics, I have no problem with that. Whatever suits people best and fits their needs is fine with me. Playing with hue and saturation can always be very entertaining as well. 😉

Thanks for the extra help.

You open them in SimpleText, Photoshop, PictureViewer, or whatever, copy to clipboard, and then past into the ResEdit file. ResEdit doesn't support drag and drop.

Sounds simple enough, thanks.

Would you recommend me including both ResEdit and PICT format graphics in my future sets? This would definately increase download size, but perhaps you could be more flexible with the images?

Wouldnt simply offering a PICT-set and a ResEdit set be more efficient? as most people would only want one it would save them having to download twice the filesize.

Perhaps so. That will eat up some extra hosting space, but I'd be just as well off combining ResEdit and PICT files together in one download file. Either way will work. Your advice sounds good to me.

It is possible that I will be moving Saber Studios over to TMGmedia soon (my dad's hosting space, where I get as much room as I want for free ;)), so then the website should load much faster, and you'll get much better download speeds.

Come to think of it, what I'd like (apart, of course, from the United Earth graphics set) is if you released that (insert complimentary adjective here) Confederation Frigate that was showcased on the EV Image Gallery a while back.
