?3d-ish map?

So I'm sitting here reading a paper that has a figure showing the predicted structure of a protein with a relaxed stereogram while I wait for all the sites I check in the morning to load.

And as the EV dev board page loads, I start to wonder whether it'd be possible to make an in-game relaxed stereogram of the universe by doubling the existing systs, offsetting them all to one side, and altering the location of some to give the perception of debth.

Of course, it would only work with 1 zoom level.

Another possibility would be to create a large nebu(see other thread) that is a random dot stereogram.

I dunno.

it'd be possible to combine the two ideas: make a stereogram with the systems (not necessarily random dot, i'd like to see it done with stars or something like that) as a nebu. that way it could work for all zoom levels but still be remotely realistic. the problem would be in lining up the systems and other non-stereogram objects (i.e. you'd have to replace the cursor w/ a stereogram unless you want two cursors floating around, and the same would go for systems and hyperspace routes). but it might be interesting to try something like that

if you find yourself in bed with a raving lunatic, don't worry: looks can be deceiving, it's probably not me

I would like a spherical universe so that you could have no place that is fringe or wasted with empty systs. The nebu idea sounds interesting.

Silent Night, a plug-in for Nova, will feature a small, unique galaxy. With only three races, I will be able to change the galaxy to my hearts desire. To help me finish it faster, I will not be slowed down by making ship graphic- I will use the ones from Nova.
