As the subject says. I'm trying to make a pers with id 340 appear via the alwaysPers slots in the syst resources, but no luck. pers 128 through 339 all work (well, I don't know if they all work. I know 128, 228, 328, 338,and 339 work), but 340 and 341 (possibly higher) don't work.
Is this a bug or am I doing something dumb?

I'd say bug.

I'd try picking a few random numbers singificantly above 340. It proably won't work, but it's worth a try. And that is almost definatly a bug.

I've seen this before off the Help on the Way board, with someone else who was working on an EVO plug. It almost has to be a bug of some kind. Only other number we could get to work is the one for the Bounty Hunter up in the 630s, and obviously you don't want that one constantly, unless your name is Frandall. I also noted when looking over this that 339 is the top përs number used in the default Override scenario, and wonder if it may have something to do with that.

My thought as well. Since you've more background info on this, do you know if pers 340 will show up normally in game. WHat i mean is, will they show up 5% of the time when left out of the alwaysPers field?
Yes.
Well, I know the reason. Seant will understand without problems, so if any other people want me to further explain for them, I'll do.
The reason is that, at the beginning of a pilot, the program looks which përs IDs exists in the data and the plugs, and which do not. Then in the pilot file the existing përs are activated (so 128-339, +the bounty hunter) and the unexisting ones are set to be unactivated. Now if after the beginning of a pilot you add a plug with some përs that do not override existing ones, the added përs are already unactivated, or dead, if you prefer And as the active field of the pilot file overrides the AlwaysPers field, you do not even see him where it should. This may be made because if an unexisting përs is activated, when it would appear the program would show nothing, a bug or even crash. The solution is either to use PFE (what would I do without PFE?) to manually activate the IDs, or to start a new pilot file after the installation of the plug.
Hope I've helped

WOW! How did you figure that out? I haven't tested it yet, but it's very believable and consistant with what I've seen EVO do in regards to pilot files.
This of course raises the questions: what will the EVO engine do if you activate a pers that doesn't exist?
BTW: what are your thoughts on the newest PFE?

The pers activation problem is one I've heard of before. It's why EVGE tells you to always start a new pilot file, because it relies on a pers that isn't present in the standard data in order to deliver an important mission.

Just some "translation" questions... what's "EVGE" and PFE?

Escape Velocity Game Expander and Pilot File Editor. The first was an old plug and the second should be obvious.

Hmm. Would there be interest in a utility that would activate pers' in a preexisting pilot file so that it could be used with plugins providing new pers? That way, the player wouldn't have to start a new pilot.

I have guessed the most, which I've tested afterwards. The AlwaysPers field is very useful to test that.
What will it do when an unexisting pers is activated? I don't know what it will do, but you can easily try.
My thoughts are that the new PFE is very good, but one detail (which you couldn't have guessed): the name associated with my e-mail is the name of my father, the owner of the internet connection, not mine. My name is Pierre ("Zacha Pedro" if you want) Lebeaupin. Please correct it as soon as possible Your current projects seem interesting I haven't had the time to see them yet, but I suppose It's PersMaker which posed you this problem
