i'd recommend ralph and roger's (url="http://"http://www.mso.anu.edu.au/~ralph/rodger/files/p2s204.hqx")p2s(/url). it makes the sprites and the masks for you once you specify the folder from which to get the frames (just the sprite frames, it makes the mask for you). sometimes you need to touch them up if you used black on the ship, but on the whole it's really good

I use p2s,because Makespin doesn't work for me. I don't like it. The masks always end up patchy,and the colour quality of p2s is lower than that of Mechanisto,and ships come out weird colours.

Ouch! I have been using MakeSpin ever since I did my first ships (4 years ago) and it works excellent. The mask editing tool is good, you can export to PICTs or ResEdit format, it works with non-square sprites etc
