How do I put I sound that I have on my Mac onto Res-Edit?

just open the sound w/ resedit, and copy the snd resource to wherever you want it to go. this works the other way, too (i.e. put in a different snd resource to change the sound)

Is there any shareware/freeware programs out that let you create good sounds for Escape Velocity. I cant seem to find any.
