Seeing as how, after four years or so, little has gotten done on Cold Blood, and with EVN just around the corner...I'm seriously considering dumping the CB scenario.
First of all, it's a lot of work. A lot of time. I don't have enough time to support it anymore. Secondly, seeing Martin's rules for excellence, I realize that I can't live up to those standards in CB.
If and when I dump the project, I'm not going to hand it down to anyone, or put it up for grabs. It's ending entirely, gonna be wiped from the face of the earth. No point in saving someting like that.
Just a little update notice. Oh, and the fragments of the new site I built for it can be seen here: (url="http://"http://coldblood.cjb.net")http://coldblood.cjb.net(/url)

C'mon Onix: are you mad? All that excellent stuff trown away? I understand not being happy about giving others your hard work: you are right on that. Simply you made too a too cool work since here to drop it apart... ...c'mon keep trying chap!

How can you say such a thing?! I bet someone would pay you good money for those ships... oh wait, we're all poor here. Well, you could at least gain someone's undying respect and admiration.
Aside from that, I say don't throw Cold Blood away; even if you don't want to work on it for a while there's no point getting rid of it, is there? And don't listen to M. Turner anyways: if we were to follow those guidelines, he'd be the only one who'd get to make a plug!

Sorry to hear that me old fruit, I was strongly looking forward to Cold blood. however, seeing as those were mighty pretty ships, and you said you were going to do some ships for my TC, you think you could swing some my way? I might even be able to sort you out some ca$h money...

I fail to see how this would make a difference, unless you want to change Engines, and make it for Nova.

By my understanding of that topic, those were goals , not rules, and non-of which should stop you from continuing.

It seems pointless to just throw away all that work, if you need more space on your HD, stuff CB and all it's media, and then tuck away in a zip disk. There's no point in wasting it. Who knows, maybe some day in the somewhat-distant-future, you'll find it and decide to remake it for EVN.
Oh, and on the subject of changing engines, I say, why not? It may be a good deal easier to make plugins for EVN because we'll have the w00tRaplhToolsΒ, (I admit I don't know for sure, but it's quite possible) plus you get all the cool features of Nova and the 16 bit graphics engine, which I'm sure your ships would appreciate.
C'mon, don't just thow the plug away like that. Like MadFax7 said, stuff it away on a zip. Oh, and just a little note: I don't know if you saw this or not, but in the Most Anticipated Plug topic, CB is the most anticipated.

When I realized that making Silent Night would be impossible for me to do in Nova- I changed it to be smaller. Instead of being 6 marjor races, there 2 1/2 (don't ask about the half). Instead of 400 systems, there are 50(more with visbits). Much easier to make, and it will probably be a better plugin.
------------------ Silent Night, a plug-in for Nova, will feature a small, unique galaxy. With only three races, I will be able to change the galaxy to my hearts desire. To help me finish it faster, I will not be slowed down by making ship graphic- I will use the ones from Nova. ------==========------ If you look far enough on the horizon, there will always be a cloud.
come on, don't think that all EV fans will use NOVA when it comes out. on the recent Ambrosia poll, i think about 34% said they thought EVO was the best Ambrosia game, and about 34% said EV was. Bottom line, some people won't like EVN. Maby it'll be to complex, or not expandible enough. Nothing is without flaws, and Nova is no exception, no matter how anticipated it is.

It might also because people who play EV didn't think it was worth the money to upgrade- it really was just like a nice plugin with some extra features to play with. I didn't think it was worth it. (Partly because I knew that I would have to convice my parents that it was worth it for a month before buying the game.)

This is true, but most of the poeple who don't play it when it comes out, won't because they can't play it.

The current poll on the Ambrosia News Wire (which I believe is the one you're talking about?) has EV: Override in a 4% lead (give or take), however, I consider this poll worthless because only 5000 poeple have voted in it. Martin Turner's Frozen Heart, has 12,000 downloads, suggesting that only a fraction of the poeple who visit Ambrosia's webpage have voted in it. (and then there's the poeple who don't visit Ambrosia's site, but I'll exclude them since we're talking about plugin publicity) Besides all that, you have to realize, that just because someone voted EV as their favourite game, doesn't mean they don't play, or own, Override. In which case they will probably have downloaded atleast a few plugs for it, and most likely some of them were TCs.

I agree with all of those points except expandability, and I think it's pretty obvious why I don't.
I'd also like to point out that I never said Onyx had to switch engines, just that it might be smart.
P.S. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Don't Can CB, Stuff it!
I hear about this plug for so MUCH time that it even looks impossible to be finished. Onyx, I understand your position but throwing it away totally wouldn't be good at all after the effort you put in it and in the expectations that were created around it.
Maybe one day you'll have the time and motivation to finish it, or someone else does.

You have got to be kidding!!!!! Don't kill Cold Blood!!!!!!!!!!
You are joking right?
------------------ (/mindless babble)
Onyx, maybe you could make the beta open source, that way people would still get to play it...otoh, that would mean there would be no chance of me using them in my plug...
It ain't over yet , folks. Noting reaction, I'm thinking about ways to simplify it a little, perhaps, so that completion is an attainable goal. And, I'd love to have the oppertunity to play around with the EVN engine...though CB itself will probably not be released on it. A related story, maybe, similar ships, perhaps in the future or the game's elaborate past (a thousand years of history have been mapped out, down to the year)...
Still, I might not have time to do it. I wouldn;t let anyone else finish the project, because what mostly remains is the mission writing, and that's where I wanted to put some soul into the thing.
Well, that's good.

He already has.
Onyx, don't can CB! I've been looking forward to it for a long time...forget whatever "rules" Martin posted, CB is easily cool enough to release.
reads post at bottom of thread Phew! restarts heart
I'm glad to hear CB isn't canned...yet, at least. Cmon, Onyx, surely you don't want to let us all down, and let that great universe just disappear!
Alright, alright. I won't dump the project. I'll probably continue with it. But, there will be some changes to make it easier to live and write CB at the same time.
To clarify some things, yes, I was in a distorted frame of reference when I started this string. Some might even say unstable. This in mind, most of the "attitude" expressed there can be ignored. There are, however, some points that were seriously pondered by me:
I was, for a month, thinking about the ins and outs of cancelling the project. Notably, I was entirely sane during these times.
I did not want to see all that stuff scavenged, or doctored up by someone making an honest but poor attempt to finish it off. I've always felt that way, and probably always will.
That said, I'll get to work on re-hashing things to fit a tightened "budget" soon. NOt long after that, I'll have a playable version, sans original EV data files, and with a few plotlines to mess around with. More on this as it happens.
Great! does a little dance
I really am looking forward to it. Too bad I don't have enough time to offer to help test it, if you need any more testers.

I think my name is being taken in vain here, Weepul.
The topic on Production Values was about a way of helping people get their vision sorted at the start by coming up with their own set of production values which would guide them through the creation process. I posted a set of what I thought some good values for me might be, I also pointed out that The Old Professor had made 'tiny size' a production value, and that there were many other sets.
I did not post a set of rules, nor did I ever support the idea of a politburo deciding which plugins were good enough and which weren't.
Yours, slightly testily
Martin

Martin - that's why I put the quotes around "rules". I was quoting Onyx and saying that if he was considering what you posted as rules and judgement criteria for a plugin, and as consequence felt his plugin wasn't good enough to release, he should ignore whatever you posted because I know for as much as a fact as I can that it is. I was not making a comment whatsoever on what you actually did post, which I will admit I can not remember reading.
I was trying to support Onyx, not insult you or your post.
Onyx: CB is definately cool enough. What Martin posted aren't rules or criteria. Martin: I'm sure your goals/guidelines are extremely useful, but if this little bit of confusion occurred, maybe you should be a bit clearer on what they are. If you already are plenty clear, sorry, indeed I don't remember reading that thread.
Make sense now? No hard feelings?
(back on topic) Um, I guess I've already expressed my on-topic feelings...
