Infini-D

Hey all.

Just started to use Infini-D. I'm just doing really simple things: 3D spinning writing for screensavers ect.

I was just wonderinfg:

---Can I get the manual somewhere? I really need it. I'm going quite slow.

---How can I make things rotate? Words and stuff. I need to be able to do it with speed ect. without using the 'spin' animation assistant.

---A quick curiousity question. Do you start the making of EV ships from scratch? I mean, how do you make them? Do you start with a cube or something and work from that? When I got the Infini-D format of EVO ships, they were all different parts for the wings, tail ect. I mean, how does it build up?

Cheers.

  1. You can get the manual from 3D Paradise, a hotline server. 130.243.14.47:5500 with a log/pass of: 3dp/3dp This server has a manuals for most 3D Programmes

  2. Why can't you use the spin assistant? If the spin isn't working properly (ie. the shape sort of collapses then puts itself together again, you need to group all the objects). If you wanted to rotate it manually, select a time length for your spin along the menu bar, and put the timeline there. Then rotate your objects however many degrees you want, then play the animation.

  3. They were started from scratch, properly by making primitives then editing them in the splineform and mesh editor. Make your basic shape, then add details and more modelling features as you go.

Just a note - if you manually spin an object the default animation path has curved velocity profile. This means that it starts slow, then goes fast, then slows to a stop. To fix this select the keyframes (the points) in the sequencer and choose 'velocity' in the animaton menu, choose 'linear'. Or double click them manually and choose the straight line path (linear interpolation).

As far as making ships goes - um . . . heh . . . 3D creation skills are not obtained overnight. The only primative that you might use would be a squished and ilongated sphere. Really you need to use start using extrudes and lathe objects untill you get good enough with the spline modeler to use it effectively.

I have a tutorial site, but I have not added any examples (or even done texturing or anything). Unfortunately I am really really busy and won't be able to add it any time soon either.

I suggest e-mailing me any questions you have and put me on your IM list if you have it. I won't be on much but if I am feel free to ask anything.

Go to the EV image gallery and take a look at the beginner work there to get an idea of what you can do, then make your own stuff, submit it, and see what people say.

here is the site -

Thanks Necromican, but I'd rather someone else help me in the future. You piss me off.

I'll keep your stuff in mind, Squinky, and good luck with the site. I don't think I'll get as good as editing ships (I was just messing around with it one night), but hopefully it'll be useful.

Biggin it up wiv the kraksters.
