Yeah, use Photoshop to convert the image to Indexed Color using perceptual palette generation.
Then export the color palette and use the Photoshop CLUT Converter (download it somewhere) to convert it to a ResEdit-usable CLUT resource.

export the color pallete? the only thing under the file-> export is "paths to illustrator"
Here's a step-by-step.
I've never done it, but the explanation seems pretty thorough.
Hope it helps.

ugh, i need to put in every color? screw that...
There is some easy way to do it with, I think, GraphicsConverter. My brother has made one and I don't think he did it color by color. I am yet to make one.

With Graphic Converter, open prefs and click on the box that says (under save catergory), save with CLUT. Save image, open in ResEdit, and there's your CLUT.
PEACE YO!

bleh, stupid photoshop, that seems so much more easier
sigh except theres no "save with clut" option.
Sigh indeed. Here.
Open your image in Photoshop.
Image > Mode > Indexed Color...
Palette: Perceptual Colors: 256 Forced: none (or, if you want it to include the EV menu-bar greens, stick them in there) Options - Dither: diffusion, 100%
Hit "Ok".
Image > Mode > Color Table...
Save... (and save the color table)
Cancel out of that and save your indexed color image. Open the color table with Photoshop CLUT Converter (just go do a web search for it...then download it ;)) and import the indexed color image and the newly processed CLUT into ResEdit. Assign resource IDs.
Done.
Was that helpful?
