I'm working on a giant TC plug. I want to make it really nice so I want to plan it all out in advance, Does anyone know of a good program for this purpose? Would probably be used for engineering purposes usually, lol. If there aren't any, who here would like something like this?

What do you mean? Do you mean to have a spreadsheet of the data (an upcomming R&R; tool)? A way to write down what's going to happen (it's said that you can use a pencil & paper j/k)? What? Sorry for my lack of comprehension. :frown:

A good program for planning a plugin? Well, it all starts in the brain, and once you prefer to write it down, drag the mouse over to the Simpletext icon.

But wait, we wouldn't want to leave at Microsoft Word would we? (atleast the 95 addition.) And then again, there's always Appleworks...

I'm not a big fan of Word (or appleworks 6, for the same reasons as word 98&2001), to big and bloaty. Not to mention slow. I only use Bbedit and appleworks 5, now those are the best :)!

I have Appleworks 6 as well as the latest version of Microsoft Word, but I don't like either of them. I will sometimes use an outdated version of Word, but Simpletext has actually come in handy lately.
No, I mean something that will let me plan out both the story (text) the pictures (graphics) the map (special data) etc

there arent any tools made for that specific task (none that i know of at least) and for planning the map you will need to use an image editing program, or somthing along those lines. For planning out the story, try a text editor... if you use Appleworks or any similar app, you can insert images into the document.

Hmmmm...You mean something like Adobe Acrobat? If you'll notice the "read me" files of most programs, they are usually created in Acrobat (atleast the ones with pictures, lots of pages etc.). If you have that program, it would be a good choice...

Best way I could think of doing that is making the plug ;). There aren't any programs that'll just do that. I'd almost certainly play around with such a program if you made it. And I know people would use it. Good luck!

Yeah, I like word 5. The only problem I have with simpletext is that it only opens docs that are under 32k in size :frown:. That and the fact that paragraphs are to short. That's why I use bbedit for pretty much everything except for important docs like reports or my current attempt at a sci-fi/fantasy novel.

Are you sure about that? At the moment, I have the sprite graphics for both the Dreden Carrier and Imperial Destroyer open in Simpletext, and they are both well over 100k. Do you have an old version?

Well I coulda sworn about it. I've used the one that came on my dads G4 (about a year old, not to long ago), and it can't open long readmes. Hmm. THe version on my computer is 1.4 (Å 1997). Hm. :frown: Do you maybe have enhanced simpletext? That could be it...

SimpleText can open any picture that fits in its memory partition, but text files have to be under 32 K in any version. It's because SimpleText uses the same basic text entry routines that are normally used for text fields in dialog boxes etc. rather than a real word processing core.

I do not recommend planning out the whole plug- I did that and then just slowly changed everything to what is a TC that should go into beta this winter (called Silent Night for thoose who care). Just get a basic plan of how big it and how much effort you can put into it and you will be able to remember and shape the rest so that everything fits nicely.
On the discussion of AppleWorks 6- The Kodiak Island School District asked every school and teacher to remove the program and go to either AW5 of ClairsWorks 4. Was I ever thankful! (I hated AW 6)

Woohoo! I hate Appleworks 6.
