Ok, for my plug-in, I want to make my own landing PICTs. The only graphics programs I have are Mechanisto, Strata Vision, and Strata 3D. Is there a way to make landscape with any of these programs? If not, is there some dirt cheap program out there that can be used to model nice landscape? Thanx.

Strata3d has some basic functions that you might find useful.
Haze. you will want to use it, i promise. other volumetric materials are pretty damn cool too.
use import pic for a height map of a landscape you've drawn with a 2d program. experiment with this.

Yes, use Strata 3D. After all, the Myst graphics were created with it...

the myst graphics were made with strata vision 4.0, the Ancient Free 3D Software. Strata 3D is much better.

Try Bryce. It's fantastic for landscapes.

And no too expensive either. If you're trying not to splurge, Bryce is your best bet.
If you have a PeeCee, you can try Terragen(free). It's much easier, and is one of THE best(even amongst high-end graphic types ;)). Did I mention that it's free.

Ive seen some amazing work come out of terragen, although the pictures ive seen have all looked alot like paintings - but the person making them probably just ran the pictures through photoshop filters to get that effect. if you have a windows computer around, i suggest you get this one - it'd be your best bet.

but strata3d is good and free too, and can be used on The Better Kind Of Computers (aka macs). it's not designed for landscapes but if you can use it the results can be really good. i must say however that it is by no means a program to be used alone, photoshop (or something similar) is practicually a must.
When doing landscapes in Strata3D (This program is good, I seriously suggest that anyone reading this goes to (url="http://"http://www.3d.com")www.3d.com(/url) and downloads it) I find that texturing can be a problem. Is there anyone who knows where I can get some good landscape textures from? Or what settings to use when making a texture of this type?

Bryce was used for all the previous EV picts. But if you have a decent 3D program taht allows terrains you can do it yourself. I would sugggest looking for a Bryce demo though.

As Squinky said, it would be a good idea to download the Bryce demo, but keep in mind that the demo does NOT allow you to save images. :frown: In some ways, you might be better off going and buying version 4.0...
How much would Bryce 4.0 cost?

too much for what it is.
Hmmm...250 to 300 dollars would be a logical guess. If you can catch him, ask Carnotaur. He bought it recently...

I thought so to, but I looked in a catalogue, and it was selling it for $178 ! Which for a graphics program is not bad...
mentioning the bryce demo (if u take a screen shot right before anti-aliasing finishes u will have the pic w/o the metacreations logo)

When Corel bought Bryce, they removed this annoyance from the demo. You still can't save though.
