EV or EV/O ??

Many years ago I've started playing Escape Velocity. It was a supperb game (and still is). Then Ambrosia published Escape Velocity Overdrive. For me this was like a dream come true. The best game ever just got improved. There are more ship flags, more outfit flags, more everything. Weapons that do more damage to armor then to shields. Of course everyone knows what I'm talking about.

For about a month or so, I've been actively looking at message boards, talking to people. Those who think the original version of Escape Velocity has died are wrong. My question is why do people still play it and develope plug for EV when there is EV/O??

And what will happen when Nova hits the stage?? Will EV still be played? Will EV/O still be played?

Can anyone explain this everlasting love for a game that has been improved and is going to be improved soon??

Well playing-wise, a lot of people preferred EV to EVO (to be honest, it's more fun playing EV than EVO for me, I develop for EVO because of the improved engine). And it's a lot faster. Especially if you have a slow machine. Other then that, it could be nostalgia. It was always better the first time you played, etc. Apart from that, I dunno.

Once Nova comes out, there will still be a lot of people playing EVO, maybe more than those playing EV because there are more playing EVO now, then there were playing EV when EVO was announced.

Just my 2˘. If anybody disagrees with me, tough. I'm self-centered ;).

Well, Escape Velocity has become a very old game, yet I play it more then any other game I have. I haven't even used Override in a few months...

Yeah I only use Override for testing my plugs. For the last few weeks I've been establishing quite an empire in EV (stretching from Yemuro to Pelagon, it has about 10 systems, and a fleet comprising of 1 rebel cruiser (me!), 3 confed frigates, 1 rebel destroyer, 1 kestrel). It is a much cooler game, hopefully Nova will be as cool (or Overlord, the CS project that continues EV).

To my point of veiw, EV was what I prefered because it had somewhat better plugs and it offers many fine points such as more realistic and the storyline can be vastly improved. Besides it was the first one I played.

Wrong board, this is for development only. Try the banter+brawl.
