I've downloaded recently Strata 3D and it asks me for a registration number. As I do not posess it, Strata try to connect to internet and (though normal internet connections never fail) it freezes! So I can't use Strata at all, though I downloaded it entirely. Can anyone say me how to make Strata ignore this reg number (it's free, I don't see why it need it) or send me its prefs file of registered Strata (provided it's not illegal).

Ugh, I tried looking for a place on 3D.com where you could register, but without success. You say it froze? Hmm... Strata kind of hogs RAM and CPU power, how much of each do you have? I have a G3 and 64 megs, and it worked for me.

That is the most probable cause there . . . I would possibly try using virtual memory if you don't have a lot, but I really can't assure you that this will help.
You can download Strata 3D? Where from? Its free? Thats cool.
You can't make it ignore the serial number, but it might be listed in the resources somewhere . . . failing that try this serial number

I am not usre if this is totally illegal or what, I trust that you downloaded this thing from a legitamate source and that it really is free etc., if what I have done here is totally illegal could someone just tell me or delete this post? Thanks!

Thanks, both, but increasing the mem still makes it freeze, and Strata needs to check the reg.code by the web and freezes, so even if it would be the good one (one 3D.com would have given to me) The solution would be to have the prefs file but I don't want to use these cool boards for so-close-to-illegality things.

I've experienced the same problem, so I got the prefs file from a friend of mine. I'll email it to you. I'm not sure if it's compleetly legal, but it works.

Strata 3D has to connect to its website to check the registration code. This requires URL Access, which is in MacOS 8.6+. I dont think it is illegal to trade serial number for it, but I am not sure, so please dont.
