Mysterious problem with no fix in sight

Okay, I'm working on a plug (Mille Terrae for those keeping track of such things) and have run into a recurring and frankly puzzling bug.

Some of the ships have grossly exaggerated free mass. It doesn't happen to all of the ships. I've checked and re-checked using ResEdit, but the values seem to be set properly there. For instance fighters with free mass in the tens of tons in ResEdit suddenly have 200+ tons when viewed in the game.

The Shipyard displays the bloated mass and it carries over when you by the ship, making them terribly easy to munchkin-ize (is that a word?).

Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Thank you for your cooperation. Good night.

That has happened to me also, but I don't remember how to fix it.
The only thing that I can think of is that maybe one of the weapons uses a negative amount of space.

When that happened to me (on more than one occasion), I was forced to delete the corrupted ships and re-make them in a separate plug, whihc I then later added them into the main plug. Try that...

Deleting and rebuilding them in the same plug didn't help, but I'll try making a separate plug for the affected ships and se what happens. I've never encountered this problem before; I'm a little surprised to find that it's happened to others.

That's a small comfort at least.

Thanks for the help

Are you just using ResEdit, or EV-Edit too?

Strictly Res. I did use ShipWrite at one point to do X and Y offsets, but other than that, ResEdit and EVO Developer's Map are the only two editors that have touched it

I still haven't tried Kwanza's suggestion, but any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Hmm... I ask because it sounds like the kind of thing EV-Edit would enjoy doing. I've never run into it myself, but try Kwanza's idea - it would work for and EV-Edit prob. If it doesn't... hmmm... I'd have to look at the resc myself to help any more...

Jon

It's the Ion Cannon - all the ships with the ion cannon develop that excess free space; replace the cannon with another weapon and the problem disappears. Don't know yet whether it is weap or outf resource that is the problem, but it's not the ship.

Good hunting,
