automagic pers maker

Now that my pilot file editor has reached a beta status, I'm thinking about the next step in the pilot file software I have in mind.

What I'm thinking of is a faceless application that reads a pilot file, and creates a plugin that has a pers based on the information in the pilot file. Would there be an interest in such a thing?

I would use such an application.

I'd definitely use it.

Sounds good. I like the part about it being faceless- NO userinterface and NO manual! 🙂

Sounds cool! I don't know for sure if I would use it, but the need could always arise.

That is an extremely cool idea. Extremely. Imagine... you drop a pilot on, and it adds you to the "Player Pilots" plugin, to be seen anywhere about the galaxy. My only regret is that I'm not the one who thought of it 🙂

By the way, where did you get the file structure for the pilot files? I'd be interested in snooping around in pilot files (or creating an editor to do the same) as well...

Thanks,
Datax

Well while snooping around in ResEdit I found these tidbits:

A pilot has a OpďL type, and an EsçO creator. It than has only 1 resource type, the OpďL. Open it up and you'll find 2 resources; Pilot Data, and Adventurer (this was in the pilot I opened, it refers to the ship, I'd assume). It unfortunately doesn't have a template so you have to wade in Hexadecimal gibberish, but hey! That is the structure.

But to be specific on how to do it. Ask seant.

I asked mburch for the pilot file specs and he sent me the original EV pilot file info. AFter a little guess work and a lot of head banging I figured out how the pilot file is encrypted.

Everything I know is at: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/000538.html#")http://www.AmbrosiaS...ML/000538.html#(/url) (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/001049.html#")http://www.AmbrosiaS...ML/001049.html#(/url)

I've a few ideas of some neat things that can be done (the per maker being step 1 of a 2 step process), but wanted to make a pilot file editor first. There's an applescript version on the add-ons page, and the beta version of a graphical pilot file editor is being tested.

I just hope andrew doesn't slap me with the DMCA. I did reverse engineer the pilot file encryption, afterall.

Excellent Idea!
I would use it in the plug-in I'm making and maybe make a collection of people to fly around and incorporate a storyline with my own saved games!

I'll have to check that out... (NOTE: I won't compete w/ you, I'm just looking to see how it would be done)
