It's been many a month since I peeked into these web boards, and I'm happy to see that 3D artists are now concerned about textures and soforth. Also, it's good to note that many good resources for just this topic have sprouted since I posted that befuddled-old texturing/lighting guide. I'm thinking I should probably update that sucker or delete it, as it stands crippled beside others.
--However, there is still little talk about lighting...perhaps I'll make that my main focus, and have textures and perhaps a shipyard on the side. Everybody wants more shipyards...
Cold Blood, for those of you who remember it, is not dead, by the way. Next week I proove that once and for all!
-Onyx (who thinks he'll change his name back to "Tycho")
Next week!? Are gonna release it now? I thought you were wating till Nova comes out. Anyway if not gonna release it next week, I'm still the one who's gonna be waiting.

Holy S---!
Onyx has graced us mere mortals with his presence. Ok well perhaps its just me cuz I never used to check anything other than the Image gallery :p.
Glad to see Cold Blood ain't dead, I still check that site so see if its updated.
A lighting guide would be a good thing, most people I see underestimate its importance greatly.
Got any new images or anything? I would love to see something you have created more recently!

heh..I still haven't got that copy of the beta I was promised all that time ago ;)..good to have you back again Onyx..
------------------ Ladies and Gentlemen, as you know we have something special for you at Birdland this evening. A recording for Blue Note Records... Let's take it back to the concrete streets, original beats and real live MC's...
Onyx! Welcome back! It's good to hear that Cold Blood is still in the works. /me looks forward to next week...
About guides, what I feel is most lacking is a guide on how to create your own decent-to-good-looking textures. Meowx has one about texture applying, you have basically a small "textureyard" and a bit about lighting. What amazes me most about your graphics, probably, is the incredible texturing (not to mention the models themselves, but I'm more amazed by the textures :D). I really don't know how you make those, in the senses of 1. making them look good the way you do, like worn, realistic panels, 2. just plain technically creating the darn textures themselves...what techniques you use, the simple aspect of creating textures that look like the aforementioned, and 3. making textures that apply just about perfectly to what they're going on.
I feel I'm at the level where I can create decent textures and apply them in combination with any others I have lying around to get good results, but true creation, start to finish, with such amazing results escapes me.
Do you think you could come up with a guide on that? Or is it a trade secret of yours?
Anyway, in the sense of guides for graphics, that's what I would most like to see. That, and/or one for "neer-nie" creation (PyroManiac? or should I wait for college...)
I totally agree with Weepul here, I could swear that some of your ships could be on the cover of any good commercial 3D Space Sim.
Weepul - I think I would experiment yourself. Unless you take a 3D design Major or something they don't really offer classes on that sort of stuff that I have found. I have taken all teh Undergraduate courses I can and and taking Graduate courses on computer 3D graphics (theres a lot of math and programming too). Good luck though wahtever you do!

"In mid April, 2001, I will be releasing the fifth and final Alpha version. Also, the site will be updated with a fresh look and soforth...prepare yourselves... " (from the Cold Blood News page)
And Tycho, I'd love to see an in-depth guide on lighting! It's the one thing that I haven't always been the best at! (Quiet, you, MAGMA whiners. All 10,000 of you.) -david-

I'll be releasing the Alpha V next week (this week, actually) for testing, not the whole shabang. Also, I'm working hard to get that darn website up to date, and that'll likely happen at a time that coincides with the Alpha V release.
I'll also update that "texture yard" of mine, with some better advice on lighting and soforth. It won't be an immediate thing, but soon.
