Attn: All Grafix People

As some of you may know, I'm one of those grafix dudes that's makes ships, etc, for me and for other people. The only problem is that my ships aren't looking too realistic. I need some textures for the surfaces of my objects, so they aren't just one solid color. If anyone has any texture files that they'd like to share with me (particularly for metals), please send them to Jak205@Excite.com, or to Chaosgrafix@yahoo.com.

btw, with your permission, I'd like to put the textures on my site, so other people can use them as well. Just mention wether or not you'd like your file on my site.

well, you can check a place like (url="http://"http://www.3dcafe.com")www.3dcafe.com(/url) or other sites, and, i have a folder with 73 different textures, from various ship models that i could send you, too big for email though.

You can make your own textures too...
It's pretty easy... You can do it with any drawing program... then you can import it into your 3D program.

Hehe just kiddin'.

well, its easy to make textures, just not GOOD ones...

I know I can make my own, but they aren't always that good. I'm using Mechanisto, and even though it's excellent with shaders, it still doesn't look real enough.

Deadboy, if you could upload the folder (stuffed) to a site, I could download it from there. If you're stuck on that, I could always give you the username and password to one of my old ones . .

If you want simple good looking ship panels, make a solid color on photoshop, and add squares of close to the same color of varying sizes. You can change that as you please, add rust or make it junky with all different colors, then in your 3D program add a metallic gloss. Of course that isn't really realistic, but it looks pretty good.

I think I'll take up Wudan.

Make your own ones, look at other images for inspiration. Its not too hard to do. USE BUMP MAPS! Check your specularity levels. This should help a lot.

And for a ship to look realistic, the textures have to be specifically designed for the object in question, unless it's a really small object or a really large ship. If the objects have any kind of big transforms on them the textures will get distorted and won't match up; so you've got bear that in mind as you design them.
