Lightwave

A long time ago, on the dev board, I saw a link to a site that had an academic version of lightwave for only $800. I have been looking for a while now, but I can't find the topic or the site, and I was wondering if anybody knew where I could find the particular site, or a similar one. Thanks!

you should call sales and ask about the academic version. WARNING! you MUST be enrolled in some sort of an art class, such as graphic arts... or whatever... for the discount. and you need a pretty high-end computer.

DeAdBoY's right, and he should know not only b/c he HAS Lightwave (I wish they had a good-natured jelousy smilie right now :D), and b/c right now Lightwave is only available (in the snail-mail sent Mac catalogs) for OS X, and that version is OVER $2,000!! 8o.

My recomendation: until you win the lottery, and and are therefore barely able to pay for Lightwave and a brand new Mac (with Lighwave most likely costing more than the computer), that you download Strata 3D and if you have around $500, then upgrade to Strata 3D Pro and now for a limited time offer (I wish I had enough money to take advantage of this :frown: ) when you upgrade to Strata 3D pro you get Strata Media Paint for free (this would mean you pay only $500 to get both 3D Pro AND Media Paint which is Strata's professional effects creator program). I say take Strata up on their offer before they realize how much of a deal they're offering for a RELATIVELY low amount of money. 😄 😄 😄 😄

You can also go to (url="http://"http://www.sharbor.com")www.sharbor.com(/url) to get the acandemic version of LW. However you do need proof that you are a student or a teacher. They need a copy of a student ID and a copy of your present class registration. If you are unsure about LW, you can get it's little brother called Inspire 3D. It's about 90% of what LW is and is very similer in layout. If you know how to use LW you will know how to use INspire 3D.

I have seen 4 absolutely awesome 3d graphics creating programs in my time. Maya-bad***, light wave-also bad***, and MAX3-ultra funk diggity bad-***. And then one of those pen and pad special effects programs that they used on The Phantom Menace - wet dream. And for you unkowing lucky people (pessimist) you can just keep to yourselves.
