FailText fails to appear

I have a mission in which I intend the player to fail. Failing this mission is the only way for the player to advance past this point in the game.

• FailBitSet is 37. CompBitSet is -1.
• CompText is -1. It would be 7074 were Player to actually succeed.
• FailText is 9074. There is corresponding text in dësc 9074.

When I try the mission—and fail—no FailText appears upon my return to the appropriate (initial) stellar. And yet I know that mission bit 37 does get set, since the next mission does become available.

Fresh out of clues. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You are going to the initial stellar? Try going to the ReturnStel. I think that's where you get the FailText.

Hmmm. I don't know if Matt fixed this for EVO 1.0.2, but I know it was a bug in 1.0.1 (the failtext never appeared). I cannot remember if he fixed it before or after he finished working on 1.0.2 and started on Nova or not. But anyhow, the failtext would be offered at ReturnStel, not AvailStel (like goomeister said).

I'm fairly certain that he didn't. Just the other day I wrote a mission for F-25 that the player must fail. When I did fail it, the failtext never appeared at the returnstel. I'm not going to go around screaming and yelling about it because I'm yet to conduct any more tests. But as far as I can tell, it still doesn't work.

Having the ReturnStel be the same planet as the AvailStel—as in my situation—cannot be the problem. Most of the missions in EV do the same. It makes more sense to me that there's a bug specific to FailText.

But there's one mission in the original EV that supposedly provides for failure—I think it's the Astrodyne V mission. You either succeed and get the tractor beam, or else fail and have the Rebel commander shake his head in dismay. Has anyone ever failed that mission and actually gotten the FailText?

i don't recall about EV classic, but in EVO the "stop zidagar photographer" misn requires the player to fail to advance the azdgari plot line. and i remember that the fail text does work, at least for that misn. it also has the initial stellar as the return stellar (ReturnStel = -4). is this how you set it?

Astro: Yes, that's just how I set it.

But thanks for telling me about the EVO mission. I will take a look at it and see if it has an element missing from my situation...
