Here is a little demo I made of what goes wrong with some sprites and how to allievate that problem: (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/startrekev/masks.htm")http://homepage.mac....rekev/masks.htm(/url)

Wow...New Ambassador...=)
Even 2 renderings isn't needed. Not for Mechanisto at least... I set the ambient light to 0.05...which is pretty much the same as no ambient light (like in space...=))
It seems MakeSpin and kinda guess between true black, exactly 0.00 ambient light...and even 0.01 ambient light. Ships lit with 0.01 ambient lights will still get their masks right...unless there is black on a texture or something...=)
And rememeber...Ambassador class is over 520 meters long...needs to be almost as big as Galaxy class Sprites...=)

My only question is "Do the programs you use not support alpha channels, and if they do, why are you not using this feature?"... -david-

They support Alpha channels, but I do not have video editing applications that can extract and export alpha channels.

The limitations being people with 256 color monitors and the black textures. Granted my way is more work, but more people on this board seem to have the classic, old, 256 color computers.
That and I don't want to alienate them
