I think it is the best way for us. Browsing the the Board for EVMP related topics really suxx.
So, Gods of Ambrosia I call you, My mouse is by my side, I seek a Board of EVMP, I hope you see I'm right.

Great! another EV board. now that makes 7 not counting the chronicles and newswire...

Ambrosia's policy on EVMP has always been "Code your own". Why not make your own "EVMP Advocacy Web Site", where you can have all the boards you want? You could promote current efforts to make a EVMP, hold chat rooms, do mock multiplayer text adventures, and then incite violence against Andrew Welch if he doesn't meet your demands. Pool resources and all, eh?

There is no Ambrosia product called "EVMP". Why don't you go look at the list of Ambrosia webboards and tell me if you see any that are dedicated to non-Ambrosia products. Simple, isn't it?

Burch's response is a tad grumpy, but he's right. There's no actual project or product around which to build such a board. And the incentive for ASW to provide a board devoted solely to dreaming out loud...well, let's say it's a little murky.
Frankly, I like JerelC's idea (everything except the inciting violence part!) of creating an independent site devoted to the notion of an EVMP. If such a site actually became popular, and attracted/inspired the right people...well, it has to start somewhere, doesn't it?
------------------ PlanetPhil not drowning, waving
but it is a common topic. and i think it is OFF-Topic on a Plugin Developers board. of course i understand the argumet that an EVMP is not actually developed by ASW but its a very related topic. anyway it was only a question. so we shall make our own board and the thing is through...

While I agree with mburch, I also have to agree with some of the comments which point out that EVMP is a common topic, and really doesn't belong on the Dev. Board.
Rather than a specific EVMP board, why not a more general "EV Wishlist"? This could save the EVN board from the "I have another idea" posts, and would give the EVMP threads a place to live.
Essentially, the EV Wishlist board would be for blue-sky ideas, hopes and suggestions. By removing these topics from other boards (specifically the two I mentioned above: EVN and Dev.), the boards would be more on topic and less frustrating to those sick of the same-old. Additionally, a wishlist board could serve as a means of seeing what people are asking for. When Nova is released, it will include many of the features which people have pined for in the past. The Wishlist board could record potentially good ideas for future products.

We were talkin about this on another thread, but this is better since i probably got all the EVMP ppl's attention. I know alot of people try to program apps to do the MP stuff that have never worked out, and previous attempts for EV RPGs have been only mildly successful. Something that would blend these, maybe a Planetarion type thing (i don't like Planetarion because of the thousands of people), would probably please everybody. All we need is a team of people that can actually have results. I would do it, but i could only do the site design and interface. Anyway, it's just a thought, but what else is really working as good as this could? We've already seen Planetarion, but we have no proof that an EVMP can ever work....

This does sound like a reasonable request. There is a precedent already in that the Chronicles have stories that stray somewhat from the EV/O universes, and yet they have their own board. If andrew does decide to start another board, I think the EV wishlist (or maybe EV Dreams?) board would be a good one. Just my opinion. Jude

Ah, it was J Ace 21 that originally agreed with me about an EVMP similar to Planetarion. If you see this J Ace, please tell me your ideas on the actual production of this.
Right, as if EVMP isn't in enough demand. If Ambrosia had a EVMP board, people would think they were working on one and andrew would get a million emails a day asking or demanding it, undoubtly some saying, "I know you are making one, so can I beta test?". We'd see nothing but a ton of "When is EVMP going to be released", "How much"...etc.
Sebek, people claiming to make an EVMP have come and gone, the last attempt, which few knew about, had the greatest hope of more people on it than any before. I, by history, doubt you will have any more of a chance and thus, do not deserve anymore help than they got.

What's wrong with inciting violence?
I think that a seperate board for EVMP would be great. Unfortunetly, I don't see how that could be associated with Ambrosia without the kinds of problems Soviet mikee noted. Not to mention Ambrosia SW sanctioning a breach of it's own copyrights...
And Matt: lighten up! You seem really grumpy these days... well, we can all send you nice long emails of thank you when EVN is finished.

there is already an EVO wishlist web board. it's called the EV nova board. posting all the EVMP discussions there would put it to some good use (and perhaps cut down on the silly SOTD banter and EVN-system-requirements speculation).

You're kidding, right? Nothing would cause cardiac arhythemia and cerebrial embolisisms (not to mention continued banging of heads against walls) faster than posting EVMP/EV dream features to the Nova board.
The Nova board mods are militantly against new suggestions/features at this point in development (alpha2), so to post dream features would go against what the moderators of the board and EVN developers have said.
I suspect that this course of action could quickly lead to some bad karma.
With wish-listing banned from the EVN board, the two things that can be discussed on the Nova board are the SOTDs and what, exactly, certain features in the progress log actually mean. Thus, I can understand why a lot of the traffic deals with SOTD stuff and info on system requirements (something not mentioned in the progress log or FAQ).
Personally, I think Andrew jumped the gun on disclosing the SOTDs. The frenzy over them peaked a while ago. It would have been more interesting to continue to allow folks to suggest features. Shouldn't have been a progress log available to the public, even. Every now-and-then mburch or the folks at ATMOS would jump into a discussion, planting red herrings and real hints about what will actually be included. Then, 2-3 months before the game is released, start having a sort of Feature of the Day (FOTD). One month before release (around the same time that feature info regarding ship images is disclosed in the FOTD), SOTDs start to appear.
That way, the EV community is in an absolute state of mania when the game is actually released.
Then again, what do I know? I'm not in charge of a successful, well liked software company.
Anyway, that the Nova comments are off topic, I still think an EV wish/ EV Dreamland/ EV Wonderland/ EV Blue Sky (whatever name fits) board would be nice.
And finally, you were kidding...right, astro?

Only if you call it EV MP, which wouldnt be allowed anyway. Also, you'll note, Escape Velocity is simply a term used to mean the speed that an object must obtain before it can escape a planet's gravity well, so, in NZ at least, the name cannot be the 'property' of ASW. If, however, you do make such a game, and it is EV made multi player, and you call it EVMP, you will run into problems

The bottom line is, if it's not an Ambrosia product, Ambrosia is not in any way required to create a board for it. In fact, Ambrosia isn't required to create any boards at all. That Ambrosia creates boards for its own software is a great idea, but if they started creating boards for things that people only wish were in existance, it would create far too much confusion. If they created an EVMP board, then there would be nothing to stop people from asking for all sorts of other boards for ideas inspired by other Ambrosia titles. It is much easier for everyone that they are simply sticking to their guns on this one. If they weren't, Ambrosia would start to look like a 'free webboard' website rather quickly.
