I just got it, before that I was using this really low end program. So I need to know some stuff. (I got the free version - no manual) 1: Textures. How do you make your own textures? Where can I get good textures (like on the net)? Can you put multiple textures on the same thing, like one next to another?
2: Can you subtract/multiply two objects from each other?
3: How do you work the lathe tool and extrude tool? They act totally different than in my old program.
That's all, mainly texture stuff, cos the old program didn't have 'em. Thanx

1: Textures. How do you make your own textures? -- Using Photshop or something like GraphicConverter.
Where can I get good textures (like on the net)? --Wouldn't mind knowing that myself...
Can you put multiple textures on the same thing, like one next to another? --In the object pallette (sp?), When you click on an object you can change the tab to Texture. Then on the rightmost button you can select the interactivity between the layers of shaders. (i.e. Multiply, subtract, add, replace)...
2: Can you subtract/multiply two objects from each other? --In the Extensions pallette you can choose boolean operations. Say... subtract. Then you click and hold down on the object to be subtracted and drag to the object that is getting subtracted from. Similar for the other boolean ops.
3: How do you work the lathe tool and extrude tool? They act totally different than in my old program. --Use the Bezier tool (looks like a fountain pen nib) in the tool pallette to draw a curve. Then select the lathe tool in the tool pallette. Click on one of the diamond shaped handles of the bezier curve you select and drag around. You can be exact if you want using the object pallettttttte.
This is for the Pro version but I would imagine that they are real similar.
Hope this helps.

A great place to gewt textures on the net would be: (url="http://"http://www.meowx.com/texturedepot/")http://www.meowx.com/texturedepot/(/url) But, you have to email Meowx first and join.

uh, what is a boolean?

Actually, a boolean operation is a graphical math equasion - that is, sphere minus sphere overlapping to one side equals sphere with a bite out of it, kind of like the Apple logo. -david-

And the free version of Strata does not do booleans. And the Pro version does it poorly. There is an older version I put up here on a iDisk (StrataVision 4.0) it did booleans (some) though a bit slow, it accomplished most of what you try. Do a search for "StrataVision" without quotes to find the version I uploaded here.
NOTE OF ADVICE!!!: Strata has been extremly good at doing backward compatibility! Strata3D will open your old StrataVision documents with out modification though sometimes extruded objects get messed up. To fix that "smooth" them to turn them into a polygon mesh. As well, StrataVision will no longer read files converted to Strata3D. Back up often!

aw poo, I have the free version.
you know how you can turn the textures and stuff? Well, how do you get out of that mode? It won't stop! I have to quit and reopen strata.

LOL!!! To get out of the texture rotate/scale/position mode you simply go under the menu: Modeling>End Reshape/Edit
The key command is "AppleKey E"
There is also a button on the button bar of a sphere that is fully shaded but you can only see 1/2 of it. That is also End Reshape/Edit.
ahhhh, now i see.
so, this texture rotating thing - is it kinda guess and check? cos, you can't see the texture while you are editing it.

Yeah, it kinda sucks in that way, but it is fairly easy to figure out how far to move things after a while.
