Ralph and Roger of (url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com.au/family/evo_software.html")R&R; Software(/url) are hard at work on the EV Nova editors. Because they are off at a 'roo roast, I managed to sneak some screenshots of some of their newest stuff.
These are ResEdit add-ons that allow you to edit some of the resources in the EV Nova data files using a new GUI instead of editing hex codes in ResEdit template fields.
How cool are they?? Talk about making life for developers easier... and these are just two of many new cool things from R&R.; We all continue to be impressed with their work, as well as their uplifting spirits!
------------------ Andrew Welch / el Presidente / Ambrosia Software, Inc. Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
Wow... That is cool. <sarcasm> I can only guess what BkgndColor and Murk means. </sarcasm> The s˙st resource doesn't have very much new except for the reinforcements (top right hand corner). But the shän resource looks like spďn resource on steroids. Everything looks self explanatory, except the Alt image fields. I guess shän resource stands for ship anchor or something of the like.
Oh wait a minute! You can change the background for the sprite and what are those arrows and pause button? I think they allow you to rotate the ship for you to see it at all angles! If so, that is very cool!
Hehe... under posts it reads: "Too many"!

Yeah... how does that work, andrew? Is like 12000 the limit?

No. He hacked it, just like how gave all the moderators "blessed" karma. If you click his info, it still says the actual number of posts that he has (after he hacked it the first time).

Hey cool, theres a system in EVN thats named pollex, and a ship thats called the Lightning.

My guess is that "shän" stands for "ship animation" and covers things like glows, moving parts, and rotating weapon turrets.
Wow! "Murk"! Does this meen EVN will have fog??!! That would be awsome for nebula regions!
I notice a checkbox for "shield" in the shän editor. If shän does what I think it does that meens animated shields! Cool!
One last thing. What does that "look up" thing at the bottom of pict. #1 go with. Search feature of some kind maybe?
------------------ "Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger."
I just have one thing to say: sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Ding! (best guess yet =P)
2) Wow! "Murk"! Does this meen EVN will have fog??!! That would be awsome for nebula regions!
Yep, I believe so, I think it's in the progress logs...
3) I notice a checkbox for "shield" in the shän editor. If shän does what I think it does that meens animated shields! Cool!
I think so again =P

some of the EVO stuff that they have published are still pretty good...

Too bad they never started on EV.

You're wrong. R&R; is developing all of these tools for EVO, too (the ones that are applicable, anyway), and is doing so in parallel.
I am very impressed yet again! I am very glad to hear they're being made for EV:O at the same time, as well! It'll make "cross-engine" plugs possible and easier. It will also make it easier to go from developing an EV:N plug or from an EV:O plug to the other. Are they developing this editor for EV as well?

Very nice. Andrew, phenomenal job. Ambrosia finally pursued a decent EV series editor.
I can't wait to see whatever new stuff comes by. Murk and Shän...what other new resources await us?

Progress on EVO stuff: I hope to have a set of about 8-10 of these custom ResEdit editor plugins ready for EVO shortly after I have done the EVN ones (and the format stops changing!) ShipWrite is getting a brain expansion:
Plus a bunch more. Also, ShipWrite 1.5 will be PPC only unless there is a huge outcry. WeaponSmith and Mission Control are going to get the treatment as well and should come out as EVO and EVN versions.
Cheer up! Ralph
