Wait no longer. Before you look at it, be forewarned, it's absolutely crazy and could never practically be used in a plug-in, unless everyone playing has substantial processing power.

heh. wonder how that ran on your computer... on mine it'd be clunking along at a frame rate i don't even want to guess...

Honestly, I think that's one of the coolest things I've ever seen done with EVO. I've always thought it strange that some ships are larger than planets themselves, to see a planet that immense....jeez...the first pic just looked so much more realistic
I'm sorry if I'm getting carried away, but that was a nice pic. Might not make much for practicality, but I like it anyways
I have to try that now...good thing I have my iMac, on my old computer i could press the forward button, go mow the lawn, and come back in time to see the frame move.

Very nice, could you send me the pict, or better yet a simple plug replacing earth's spob with that? I want to see how well it handles on my g4. chamrin@crosswinds.net

That's actually what the plug-in already does. I'm fairly lazy, so I just made it replace Earth's spin (#0), so you can just start a new pilot and see it immediately. I'll send it over later when I get time.. Just to let you know, the damn thing is 1.1 megs, larger than many small expansion plug-ins. For one planet. Anybody else who wants it, let me know, so I can mass mail it.

Honestly, it didn't go as fast as I thought it might. Right in the middle, the UE fighters and my shuttle got pretty sluggish, but overall the rate was pretty decent.

Heh, mine too. Though my iMac SE handled it better than I had expected. I had forgotten how much fun pushing EVO's engines to it's limits was, even if something this big will never appear in any plug-in.
Damn, that thing was HUGE!!!

It would look really cool if you replaced that pic with an actual picture of the earth.

Could you send me that plug-in too? My address is jereic@mac.com.
That really is darn realistic. Now, at 1.1 megs a planet, a bit wasteful, but still.

I'll have to start using the CapsLock key with this plug.

Why don't you put it on the addons page and call it somthing like "bigearth" so anyone who wants it can download it. BTW what happens to Luna and Mars when earth is that big? Do they get hidden underneeth? Or are they on top of the big planet?
Cool! It's more real that way, planets in EV and EVO are too small. E-mail me the plug-in (I have a iMac and G3 Tower with 4 gigs on the tower)!

Two things for you:
1-Whoa! VERY good PICT! Very awesome!
2-Highly Realistic
In EV and EVO, the planet sizes are far to small, but who really cares? However, either way, that planet PICT of yours is highly realistic. Planets are HUGE compared to ships like that. Even so, that PICT of yours might still be too small to be exactly correct, but again who cares? But, what if you were able to get a PICT that was entirely realistic in size. Then, imagine Jupiter....

Yeah, I'll upload it to the page. Luna is nowhere to be seen, and I believe Mars is near the very edge. If you put Luna further up as #1 on the spob list it might appear, but since it's below Earth, it's buried.
I tried to do that in a plug once, except it was for the ships and not the planets. It screwed up all the sprites in my game, though. If you could make ALL of the planets like that, that would be awsome!

lets say that planet is the actual size of earth (roughly 12,756.3 km in diamiter) that means that a shuttle craft should be about 0.0016% of a pixel long
oh yeah, and jupiters sprite should be something like 29952x24000 (photoshop won't tell me how big that is, but its probably around 600 megs)

oh wait thats in RGB color duh. well its still 80 megs or so.
