I was just wondering... who currently has a plug under development? Is it a TC, a continuation or an addition? How many people are working on it? oh and... how is it going?

ps. just wondering... do you beleive that EVO plugs will be ignored once EVN is out?

Do people still play EV? EV:O's been out for a couple of years and the original still gets quite a bit of play and still has some decent plugs come out every now and again (such as Mugabi and Destiny) earlier this year.
Certainly, EV3 will steal the attention in the short term, but IMO it's the expanded play made available through plugs that keeps these games alive. So once the newness of EV3's super spendifulous engine wears off, I think that EV:O plugs will continue to get played.
Feel free to disagree.
------------------ Jon Potter Thank you for your cooperation. Good night.
I don't really disagree, the same thing had occurred to me. Actually, I think there will be more people who continue to play EV:O when EV:N comes out then there were people who continued playing EV when EV:O came out. But, I was just wondering what other people think of this, as I'm on a team designing a TC and I was wondering if you we shouldn't wait to release it until we could make it compatible with EV:N. Damn these sentences are really bad english... gotta go to bed soon.

Quantumire SE, Project Nebula, and Dark Realms. And no, EVO plugs will not be ignored with the coming of EVN. Not in the least. -david-

Well, I am...a major (10 megs right now) continuation/tc or something. I've kept pretty quiet about it, but I can guarentee it'll be done someday. Everything but some debugging (see my earlier post), misns, and beta are done. It's taken a /long/ time, partly because I'm learning as I go and because it's pretty much a one person show.

Once EVN comes out, I don't think plug developers are going to stop their EVO projects to make them compatiable. EVN seems to have such radical changes that redoing the plug, if not doing a new plug, would be a better option than "porting" from EVO to EVN.

Capt: you think HE's good...
I've got some TCs in the works...named Origins, War Dawning, and "as of yet unnamed". Order of being worked on: unnamed, Origins, War Dawning. Order of conception: War Dawning, Origins, unnamed.
Also I've got a few that have most likely died. :frown:
Best of best luck to me, please, I'll need it. Though, hopefully I've got a guy who'll help me with unnamed after I finish helping him with his.
Oh, let's see, status: for unnamed, some ships modelled and lots of concepts. Same for Origins...and War Dawning also. They'll all be for EV3, most likely.
/me needs winter break NOW! NOW I say! I need to go work on graphics for that guy...(sore wa himitsu desu, did I spell that right? I don't speak japanese :frown:)

That's a perfectly right spelling. Want a lesson?
If EVN comes out before Frozen Heart 2, then I will be releasing FH2 for EVN. Otherwise, I may rewrite for EVN once EVN has come out.
I did the same thing for Override.
As far as a game is concerned, EVN will stand or fall by its playability (including how riveting its plot is). This will differ for different people — there are still people out there who don't play EVO because they don't like the storyline. Obviously EVN's superior engine will enhance that, just as EVO's did.
However, for the developer, EVN fixes the single most awful thing about EV and EVO — the grotty system colour graphics. I think that almost all developers, when faced with a choice between remaking their not-yet released plugs for EVN or sticking with the EVO graphics engine, will want to go with the new engine if they can (which may mean that a lot of them become TCs). I suspect, though, that very few plugs already available will be ported - they weren't for EV.

Look at the (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dsghosh/evosite/plugs.html")plug-ins section(/url) of my web site for information about all the plugs I have released or will release anytime soon. SCW was released about a month ago, and I'm working on Retribution right now. It's all done, except for testing/debugging. (No requests from people wanting to beta-test, please...if I want beta-testers, I know who I'll ask.)

Hmm brings me to an interesting question for mcb (hopes he reads this, i'd hate to start a new topic):
Do you think it might be possible to release the EV:N Bible BEFORE EV:N is released?
I think MTurner is correct in stating that just about everyone will want to go with the EV:N engine if they have the choice
andrew and matt have said the EVN Bible will be released before EVN.
Anyway, I think EVO will still live after EVN comes out, prehaps even more. After people new to the EV series have bored themselves with EVN, they'll try EVO to see what the EV series was like before EVN came out. Sorta a retro thing.
EV's days are numbered, but EVO will live until EV4 comes out. (2005 by my calculations)

I remember reading somewhere that the bible will be released when EVN goes beta.
I am working on a TC, and I have been (yes, the same one) since about EV 1.0.3 It is now going to wait for EV3, since some of the ships I've made just simply don't work without the EV3 engine. It will be called Exodus, and the only person working on it is me, although I recently got one of my friends to agree to help - he'll be nagging me to get work done on it.
------------------ To boldly go where no signature has gone before...
Well, I'm currently working on a TC (same one as sarc), an addition that is being postponed due tu the TC and the fact that I need better graphics and some assistance, and I'm helping a friend with a Star Trek TC, though I have my doubts about the success of s Trekkie plug. I hate Star Trek.
Of course EVO will live on! I played EVO before EV, and i think EV is good. I still play it, mostly on my 68k mac (It runs perfect on it). Also, EVO plugs are probably less complex to make than for EVN.

"u must be good."
Well, that's probably the wrong word. "Persistent" would be much better. Which explains why it's for EV, I think I started before EVO was even out. Of course, by now I've redone any work I did that early on, but that's beside the point. Nobody knows why the defense fleets won't work though (my other post)? I /hate/ debugging myself...
I'm working on "Reign of the UE." It will continue the UE missions all the way to the conquest of Voina. It'll include at least one new ship you can buy (UE Dreadnaught) which will look real cool, LOTS of new missions (duh), and a LOT more UE Cruisers and Voinian Dreadnoughts. Plus a new intro tune and (hopefully) a new splash screen (I'm not trying to rush you, Captian) I'm hoping to get it done over the Christmas break and then release it when it get back to college for the spring semester, as my college has a faster Internet hookup than does my home.
God bless,
UE Patriot

I had one, then I wiped my hard drive without realizing that was the one thing I forgot to burn onto a CD, my EVO folder.... with all my stuff.
Oh well, it'll allow me to finish my Starcraft campaign faster

i've got a tc series in the works, but it's coming quite slowly. i can probably have an early (i.e. very few missions, sounds, and graphics) within a month or so, but the fullscale beta will be a while if i have to do all the graphics (i may just ditch the new sounds idea, at least until a later version). side thought: anyone else had problems with resedit's ppat editor? it's not letting me change any existing ppats: i have to create a new one, delete the old one, and renumber the new one; and even that's failing quite a bit
