I prefer (url="http://"http://www.strata3d.com")Strata 3D(/url) over Mechanisto. It's easier to use (In my opinion) and is every bit as powerful.

Mike Clifton's Mechanisto
Mechanisto is powerful, animation enabled, and great for beginners. It saves QuickTime movies, renders fast, imports DXF, and more. Best of all, it's easy to use!
Of course, it's really a matter of individual preference: if you can, you might want to get both and try them both out. Mechanisto, however, is a rather smaller download and also takes less memory to run, if that's an issue for you.
In case you wanted it, the direct link to the Mechanisto download is (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl?path=ev/utilities&file;=Mechanisto.sit.hqx")http://www.ambrosias...hanisto.sit.hqx(/url) .
