I made a few nebulae in photoshop which off course look crappy because EV:O shows them in 256 colors. How do i make them look good? (i mean, not so speckled?) :frown:

It's impossible except in Nova, which will support 16 bit.

:frown:
i hoped someone would know how to edit them in Photoshop or something...
if theyre saved in gif then they will suk no matter how good ur colors are. try saving in jpg but set it to 256 before you save...

they're saved directly as pict resources at the moment. i saved them as jpegs now but i don't see an option to have only 256 colors. where is it? (PS5.5)

Uh, gif/jpg means nothing to the plug developer. It's all in the PICT resource. As such, everything must be a PICT. Anyway, the only thing you can do is convert to Indexed Color (and photoshop vers) and fiddle with the settings...and hope. Just don't expect anything much short of a compromise - a one-sided compromise, with the winner being 256 colors. :frown:
Convert to Index Color. Go to Color Table (Edit>Mode) and try hand picking colors you want make balanced image. If you good with colors you may get some good results. But still don't really expect much.

Umm... I think EV/O uses the system palette... In which case, hand-picking which 256 colors you want won't do any good.

Do the CLUT resources have anything to do with this?
ps. thanx for the tip on hand-picking the colors, i'll see if it works as soon as i have the time
Heh, I just read the new posts and thought, "THAT's what I forgot to say..."
Yeah, EV/O forces the 256 Mac-system palette. Yuck. I want my EV3 engine.
Instead of replying again, I'm editing my post.
Everything in-game must be in the 256-mac-system palette. CLUTs only affect the intro screen, which can have a custom palette excepting a few colors I'm actually not sure of.
Hand-picking colors for a nebula would be a waste of time, since it'll be forced into the 256-system palette anway...either wait for EVN or else good luck getting decent dithering. :frown:

The CLUT resource can be used for the intro screen but I don't think it can be used in game.
