I have learned how to do missions with Res-Edit! Only a little bit of reference to the bible is needed, and the only real thing I need on the screen is the Override data 1 & 2 so I can make the missions properly.
I have figured out a way to ingeniously do the descs with no trouble. EV-Edit cannot make missions. They don't work. However, the descs are great. I just make a mission with Res-Edit, load it up into EV-Edit and make the descs. Of course, as soon as I get Ralph's mission thingy update it'll be even easier...
I have made the first 3 missions of UEC(ontinuation) as experiments, and they're fine. I hope to make UEC, although it isn't my main aim. ~Gav

I was actually thinking of having a BIG add on packet for EVO where it would: countinue mission strings add ships and improve the game but not make things look to much out of place. I had started working on one but my computer crashed and I lost EVERYTHING so that scraped that project.

Don't be put off by the fact that other people may be working on similar projects, because:
i) Most of the plugins that get talked about on this board are never released. (And, strangely, most of the plugins that are released are only talked about once they are more or less finished).
ii) Your take on UE continuation will be totally different from anybody else's. For EV, there were hundreds of 'continue the Rebel/Feds story' plugins. Some of them were outstanding, a lot of them were pretty good. I don't remember (in the good old days of the EV Discussion List, which preceded the first web-board) that anybody ever complained that there was already a 'continue with Rebels' plugin.

Like me. Martin, mine's all finished except for a few of the mission descriptions and testing...I think mine'll be the exception to your otherwise pretty accurate rule.
