Whatever happened to kberg? Kberg, you still around?

I've been wondering on how he was doing with his game. Anyone with information, please post!

Hey, yeah, and what about (soviet) Mikee? I heard he was working on a project involving exobattle. All three seem to be MIA.

I think the EVMP project is going slower then expected....

I still have the screenshots, but they're kind of old, I think.

One of the members disolved the development group that I joined up with, so I've taken this opportunity to start over. My engine wouldn't have handled networking very well anyways, I didn't know enough about what was required when I started. I continued posting public builds of my new engine about a month ago. This one is really featureless at the moment, but is built from the ground up with networking in mind. I'm thinking of either opensourcing it or just making it public domain and letting people contribute what they want.

In preperation for an opensource project, I started writting up some rough documentation explaining what needs to be done, and started to explain some of my implementations.

Anyone who's seriously interested in lending a hand and is fairly familiar with c/c++ can contact me at kberg@sfu.ca. A link to my work in progress documentation can be found on the main page and in the News section at (url="http://"http://www.sfu.ca/~kberg/")www.sfu.ca/~kberg/(/url)

Woohoo! kBerg lives again!

Good to see you working again. I hope we can see full networking this time around. I'm amazed though, most would've given up at your point. Anyway, keep up the good work.

My problem, the new app crashes on me when I launch it. Common? I understand were back to build1 again.

Have you heard of iDevGames.com? It's a Mac gaming site that was started by a man named Carlos Camacho. He wrote,

"Hi, a few months ago I wrote about the lack of Macintosh game programmers, and the need to help increase the number of developers working on MAC-ONLY game titles. My site is starting to post source-code to older games that has been released to the public. I'd like to put a call out to all past, and present game programmers on the Macintosh: If you have a game, that no longer generates revenue (through shareware registration fees), please consider releasing the source code to your game.

Many programmers I contact often say;

1.I would release the code, but it is such a hack...
2.There's no commenting at all...
3.It doesn't have any flashy 3D graphics, so no one will want it...

Remember, one man's junk is another's treasure."

Hr wrote all this and some more (which I would highly advise reading) at (url="http://"http://www.macslash.com/article.pl?sid=00/11/06/1620207&mode;=nested")http://www.macslash....207&mode=nested(/url)

Hope this helps!

I have one more question. Did you ask Ambrosia if they wanted to do this with you? If so...they said "no," didn't they? If not, why not? It would be very nice to be able to use EV's, EVO's, or EV Nova's ships in a game such as yours and have the same systems and such in the game. Do you see where I'm coming from??

Ambrosia may be against vapourware, but they are certainly not against making money...

If Andrew W figured I had a good chance of finishing this, then I have no reason to think he would hesitate to back the project up.

Will you be posting frequent new build like the EVMP1.0

-Eytee

I wonder why Mr. Welch might not have much confidence in you...but for God's sake, he must at least see something! After all, you've got a high sense of perseverence! I just wish I could understand some of what you're talking about on your page! Is there by any chane any more written? IT seemed almost to be a little cut off there.

BTW, I just want to say that I have confidence in you. Good luck.

Heh, Thanks! 😄

That page is a work in progress, so I will continually update it. It gives other people a chance to see some of my design, and hopefully will help me to catch any problems before it becomes too difficult to change them.

I will post frequent updates to the actual binary as well.

Kberg, what do you think of the EV Arena project? Do you think it can succeed using only RB?

This may sound dumb...but what advantages are you getting out of C++ than they are gatting from RB?

One more thing, could you post on this board whenever you post a new build on your site? Thanks!

As it seems now, we may start from scratch and go OpenGL. All has stopped until this is resolved...

It still was fun doing it though, even if it must be redone 😃

c++ and RealBasic are really hard to compare. I've only had a little experience in c++ but I think the main difference is that the stability of programs written in c++ are dependant on how well they are written while RB programs rely on good coding plus the stability of Realbasic on top of that.

The good thing about RB is that it's semi-object orientated. Meaning I can drop a spritesurface, which contains it's own key and collision events, on my window and enter it's run code right into it. As far as I can tell, in c++ you have to create your own 'spritesurface' from scratch using standard libraries(or use someone elses).

Someone will probably rip this explanation to shreds but I don't care.
