First of all, I love EV. My Mac is slow and but it can take it. I'll be writting plug-ins soon too, I hope.
My one complaint is this: Planet names that already exist. Here's why:
There's a planet called New France, right? Well, New France once existed. It changed a lot over the years, but it's basically known as Canada today.
New Scotland (despite the oh-so funny quotation about bagpipes and haggis) also exists, to this day: It's called Nova Scotia, it's one of the first 4 Canadian provinces.
A word to programmers and designers out there: I admire your work, but taking names that already exist is kinda, well, not bothering, but just a bit icky. New This and New That always sound cool, but a lot of 'em are already taken. Not that it changes anything, though. Just a thought. Please don't hate me. EV is perfect otherwise.

I think the point is that people from those places moved out to that location.
Rather than expanding on earth, that is.

If everyone that had a problem with EV because it it unrealistic complained about it, these boards would take a few hours to load...

Actually, New Scotland is a reference to one of the settings in a classic Niven/Pournelle book... if you don't know which one I'm talking about, then you're not truly a sci-fi fan.
The New France thing is just something that came out of my head - I didn't know it was the former name of Canada. Keep in mind that I went to a public school, so I don't now nothin' 'bout Canada, just like everyone else in the States.

I admit, I am not a true sci-fi fan. I'm not worthy, yet, of the name. But I'm trying! They made the same mistake (about New France) on DS9...
But like I said, please do not read too much into this! I'm hooked to the game and that lil' detail won't stop me (nor anyone) from waisting more hours on it. I just thought I'd say this as, you know, a simple did-you-know-that annoying kinda fact.

I don't see what the big fuss is about. New France, a long time ago, was the name for an area of Canada roughly occuping Quebec, Southern Ontario, and some of the maritimes. It didn't come near B.C., Alberta, Sask. Manitoba, Yukon, N.W.T., Nun., and the northen sections of Onterio and Quebec.
I do not see why tt being the old name of some real location should be a problem. That is why there is a "New" in front, and it sounds ridiculous to have somehing called "New New France" (sort of reminds me of car salesmen) If it helps, why not put in some others too : New Canada, New America, New Brezil, New Portugal, New Germeny, New Atlantic, New Earth, New Terra, New Landfall....... Do that for every country on earth, to make al things equall.

You are right. But also a major chunk of the US (all the way down to Louisiana). But still, my point was simply this: some names are already taken, or were at one point. It doesn't matter too much though.
You will be happy to know there is a fine New Canada EV plug-in available on the Ambrosia web site.
To try to settle the argument, think of New Mexico. It exists now with that name, but who knows, the name could change (don't count on it too much though). If it did change, could there be another New Mexico? I doubt it.

Actually, New This & New That sound absolutly @!Å& and should not exist. New York, New Zeeland, etc..
Can't the colonists just think of something original instead of feeling homesick?

Do you realise, Nicholas Shanks, that you've brought up a topic that was 6 months old? Has the board been that boring lately?
I was dead for the last few months, if anybody remembers me (I doubt anybody does). I also intend to stay dead.
I'm only answering this because it popped up in my mailbox. Yes, I was Flame. I don't think I'd care much about New Scotland today now. I've stopped posting on this board because I feel unworthy of doing so, now that I own a PC. Call me a fool, I still have high respect for mac users. Even greater now that I have a PC...

But hang on, New France is stolen from France, New Scotland from Scotland and what about New England, New South Wales, New Caledonia, New Britain etc etc??
