We've been talking about "ship glows" in EV3 for some time; I figured it was about time I put together a few movies to show you what we're talking about.
Each ship can (optionally) have translucent overlay "glow" sprite for engines, weapons, and running lights (which can blink/throb in various patterns).
Here are a few movies that show this off -- please note that the beam weapons currently aren't firing from where they should be (so they look a bit off), and we're still tweaking various other things, but this should give you a decent idea. All of the movies are under 1mb in size.

Nice! The Arachnid and Scarab's gaudy colors look a bit better when they're pulsating like that, I suppose they're acceptable now... Still think that they would look better all black with a single dark pulsating color, but hey that's me! -david- ps - the Manticore movie is 1.2 megs, which is not "under 1mb"...

Phooo...that looks awesome...weird glow pattern on the scarab's engines...
This is really cool, but it's gonna take forever to render all that (for plugin developers).
I have to say, Andrew, I am quite excited and impressed.
Like 1/5 of EVO users (I imagine), I'm trying my hand at plug in design... and what I've seen really encourages me in the power of EV3's engine.
The more I look at it, the more I think I want to wait until I can do the plugin in EV3.

I love the way the laser from the Arachnid comes from the four points and forms a proper beam. Scarab is also pretty cool, always thought the Polaris ships looked cool but now that are definatly my favourite.
