Nothing special. It's just that I really want to try Strata3D , and don't want to pay $40 (plus shipping &handling;) for something that supposed to be free. Yet I cannot d/l it 'cus my f*cking modem is on crack.
Is there any other way to d/l it besides getting the whole 25megs in one big ridiculously hefty dump?
If not, is the 25megs the whole program , or just a bunch of support files, plug-ins, and samples and such, along with it? If so, maybe someone could partition it into smaller chunks and send it to me that way.
...Then again, maybe not. I know I'm kinda a newbie 'round these parts ;), but I'd really appreciate any help.

Just buy a Mac Magazine with Strata on the cover CD that comes free with the magazine.

As a matter of fact, I have already tried that. I made sure I did before posting this. I got that suggestion from somewhere else on the board. I've since not been able to find any of these magical magazines and, when I calculated it, paying for a subscription would be hypocritical, since for the same price, I could just order the CD. But that's the only way I can get back issues.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

well if i had some version of stuffit deluxe i would be willing to stuff seperate smaller files and send it to you...
------------------
Well, you could use Aladdin's DropStuff 5.5. It compresses files up to 60%(eg: Photoshop app from 9.9MB to 3.9MB), and it's free(for trial period). You could download it (url="http://"http://www.aladdinsys.com/downloads/")here(/url), or I could email it to you.
I think it's really cool that you're willing to do this J.Ace21 , considering the logistics and all. Thanks.
(BTW, does anyone have one of those "fix broken download" thingies. I tried using ViaHTTP, but the latest version doesn't start on my machine. Anyone know somewhere else I could get an older version or different app. Thanks)
(edit) I forgot to mention, you may already know all this and may simply be suggesting a better compression.

Try Interarchy. You can get it from CNet Downloads(/url(

Another good option - download Hotline Client, which also can be found at download.com. Hotline features resumable downloads, which is how I downloaded Strata3D.
Once you download Hotline, connect to server IP 24.12.145.134 - the Starlight Hotline server; you should be able to find Strata3D in the files section.

I tried to use Strata 3D but my computer gave me an error saying that some kind of Open GL library was missing.
ColdFusion , I d/led "Hotline Client" as you suggested, but I cannot find any starlight server, and when I put in that IP address, it says it is invalid. That whole program is a little confusing. Any suggestions?
Necromicon , I am now going to try your suggestion.

I'm so sorry... the IP address is 24.12.145.134.
however, I just double checked, and I believe Strata3D was one of the casualties when the server crashed some months ago. Go ahead with Necromicon's idea.
But the Starlight server is a cool place. Go there anyway.
I think I finally see what the problem is, and it's what I suspected all along.
It seems that free.digitalriver.com (Strata3D's ftp host) is one of those ones that doesn't allow partial downloads. This means that, no matter what kind of ftp client software I'm using, if I didn't complete the download, then there's no download, which sucks. I've tried, in succession: ViaHTTP, Fetch, NetFinder, Anarchie, Hotline Client, and Interarchy. All with no success.
The second part is that Strata doesn't host the file on any other servers(so I'm told), meaning I have to get it from a third party or through a stable connection, or not at all.
There is always, of course, a magazine cover CD. But these don't seem to be readily accessible. Let's face it. I might as well wait it out. 2 1/2 weeks isn't that long.
(Of course, there is still the email option, that is, if anyone is up to it. )
If there is an alternative solution that I and everyone else here left out, I'm listening.
i'll send it to you. got nothing else to do
J.Ace21 , if you're really going to send it then I expect this to take awhile. You should send the main files(i.e: Strata3D app, required support files, etc.) first. Basically, anything one would need to get started. Then, if you feel like it, you could send the samples, help, and other non-required files.
The modem I have right now is unstable, and at best, could probably handle about 4-6MB a pop (although, last night, I d/led the StrataStudioPro demo , 30MB, with no problem, just can't get it to work). So I expect it to frequently give out, which only further complicates the process. I don't know much about d/ling via email. Can you continue it if your connection drops?
There is an alternative to email: You could upload it to web space that allows you to continue partial downloads. Oh, I don't know, maybe Driveway or something(that is assuming you don't already have web space). That way, we wouldn't have to play email tag for hours on end.
(edit)You could also, perhaps, upload to the Starlight server from Hotline. I don't know enough about it to know what their rules are, but ColdFusion could probably tell you more. Again, that's assuming you don't already know that.
Anyway, those are just suggestions to make it easier if you are serious, 'cus I've done the whole "email me, download, email you, download, email me, download, email you, download" thing. It's tedious and quite unnerving, and I don't want anyone to get irritated by it.
Give me a shout out(email) when(and if) you're ready. Thanks. Tschüs

Oh, and one more thing. Does anybody know anything about Strata StudioPro demo?
I somehow managed to d/l it but, every time I start.... Well first, does anyone know anything about it.
