How do I make uninhabited systems?

Sure, it may seem like a stupid question... But no matter what I do, I can't quite figure it out.

...Help?

Just leave the system without any planets in it. If you want their to be an uninhabited planet, set the 'Planet is Unihabited' flag in the spobs flag field.

Hmm, I thought I did that... But it kept setting the system to Independent.

What are you making it in? If it's Dev map, then try fixing it in ResEdit. If it's EV-Edit, then you only have yourself to blame. 🙂

Ah yes, I am using EV-Edit. Perhaps that's it...

I'm just starting with Plug development, and EV-Edit seemed like the easier way to go at it, so... Was I wrong? Is there another Editor which is easier to use than EV-Edit?

In the long run if you use Resourcerer with the annotaed templates it's pretty easy. It'll also save you a lot of bugs.

Where can I download this, and it's documentation? I should give it a shot.

...Perhaps I should check the FAQs again...

Resourcer is probably not the best choice for a plug-in beginner, it costs about $250 and is a bit of a case of overkill in my opinion. I use it, but that's because I like the UI better. There is a free alternative that can do everything you need to make a plug. You may of heard of it, it's called Res Edit. It's a resource editor that is used to edit all the different types of data in Escape Velocity plug-ins. It's a little daunting at first, but once you've read the right documents and have the right utilites, it should be a lot clearer.

The first thing I recomend you read is the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum;=EV+Plug-in+Developer+FAQs&number;=29&DaysPrune;=365&LastLogin;=")EV Plug-in Developer FAQs(/url). It gives good advice to a beginer from some of the best developers in the EV community. I then recomend you download the EV Bible Annonted Adition and Res Edit 2.14 from the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiaSW.com/games/evo/addons.html")addons page(/url). They are the basic tools needed to create a plug-in. The bible will inform you of all the resources that are used to make a plug-in and describe the process needed to use them. The next step would be to download the Annoted templates from the same place. This is the information Res Edit needs to make the resources described in the EV Bible.

You now have the basic requirements to start making plug-ins. However, once you have been using Res Edit for a short time you will notice the complexity that involves creating top notch plugs. To work around these complexities, some third party companies have created utilies to help the plug developer create his masterpiece. The best of these can be found at these links:

Ľ(url="http://"http://members01.chello.se/warlordpontus/ev/")Pontus Illbring's EV/O ulities(/url) are excellent programmes for creating some of the harder resources such as systems and planets. I recommend you get EV/O Developers map for creating galaxies.

Ľ(url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com.au/family/evo_software.html")R & R Software(/url) have made some excellent programmes recently such as ShipWrite for making ships and Mission Control for (surprise surprise) creating missions.

If you have followed this advice, then your on the right track to creating plug-ins. Good luck.
