G'day all, nun of u wuld have seen me b4, thats because i play ares. A couple of years back i decided to go out and buy escape velocity, after playing the demo. "GREAT!" i thought, "This game, rulz!", or so i thought. After downloading scenario after scenario, and extension after extension, and using them to there full extent i thought "man, they should make a multi-player ev'. Then they released Ares, and it was sed to be a game alot like ev and evo but multiplayer! so i went out and bought ares, and now a couple of months after i find it only has the tiniest bit to do with ev and evo, that it is set in space. Apart from that it was pretty boring. So ive come here to give some solutions to the problems set by ambrosia to why they wont release an EVMP.
i read earlier ambrosia is worried about the problems with plugins colliding, HEY! dont enable plugins!. Another thing mentioned was, 'people who have bought ev and evo will have to go out and buy evmp, but isnt it worth it? People went out and bought ev then went out and bought evo because it was a new revelation in the ev games. And a multi-player version will be the same.
Also, if any of you have played muds or games like it, you wuld know that you create a character and then you can log on to a server and use your character any time you like. Why doesnt Ambrosia create a server for people to log onto with a maximum of only the one character, (controlled through ip numbers) and log on! there culd be things like: *when you begin you can choose, your name (obviously), race, sex, upload a portrait of yourself for peple who wanted info on you ect. *Lowbies culdnt be attacked until they reach a certain level of power *Planets and starports were owned by respectful people, (like moderaters) and could deny access to people landing ect. *Bars on planets or starport could be chat rooms, where people can talk just like on IRC. *Lowbies could take out loans from certain people to buy ships, and then pay them back as they earnt money. *Computer missions would be disabled, and missions controlled by certain trades people, where you transported good (such as weapons) between . Or do missions for people in the space port bars, and destroy a certain person who owned a suped up kestral and was destroying all couriers (people who were transporting goods). *you could order weapons in from other planets. *when you died you are resurrected at your home planet *Immortals take care of troublemakers.... *there are special communtications channels on your ship such as normal chat, distress, missions, ect.
These are just some wild ideas, but if we can get a group of people together and design just the basis of it, and ambrosia tells us what they need, maybe there is a chance!!!

Good ideas, but, how is this going to happen? i have a coupla suggestions of my own: -what if you could add your own ships into it! then, you could add weapons by buying them, so the person does not have an unfair advantage, like, the utility destruct-o beam, or something like that. -There would still be AI players, that could be killed and pillaged. -you could chat-hail other players, so you can beg for mercy, or demand pay.

Hmm not too sure, im only experienced in the sound/music area, and basic graphics. If i was to start developing an evmp i would need a HUGE team, as well as permission by ambrosia. it sounds easy, but it'll be a hell of a job. Also ur ideas are pretty kewl, if anyone else wats to add ideas, feel free. If Matt or any other ambrosia developers see some of the ideas that all of us are coming up with, maybe theyll reconsider!
Someone is already work on EVMP. If you want to offer your services, contact kberg. Now please, actually read some of the other topics on the board before posting your own. Oh, and PLEASE goto grammer school.

I know what you mean, just reading the EVMP discussion makes me ROFL. No one there even has any programming skill! I mean everyone dreams of making an EVMP, but they don't relise how hard it would be. The most anyone has been able to do is design what it would look like, no one has been able to come close. And it's not going to happen this time either.

Have you downloaded any of kberg's latest builds? It's not networkable yet, and it doesn't even have any missions or stuff like that, but it has been coming along rather quickly and is surprisingly fun to play.

I saw someone mention the idea of Bars as chat rooms. How's this for an idea- maybe the ability to message specific people from bar to bar (across planets).
that would lead to things like people seeing high/low prices across the map, and buying/shipping goods in bulk- get people like mini-Jabba the Hutts hiring out newer players to fly their cargo over.
Like: "hmmm, I could make 30,000 buying electronics here and shipping them to this planet. That planet will pay me on the arrival, and I'll pay some trader 10,000 to ferry them for me while I make other deals"

OK, this topic is stupid. I'm locking it.
Macabre: Learn proper spelling/grammer and people might respect you and listen. When people talk like that around here we just think that they are stupid, lazy and lame. (no offence intended - that's just what we think of that style od speech)
Everyone else: BEHAVE. Just because someone brings up the EVMP topic doesnt give you a right to flame them.
Here's a hint for developers: Make an open-source EVMP under the GNU GPL or something and register the project at sourceforge http://www.sourceforge.net, that way people can work together in a group, track bugs, patches, new builds etc in a group enviorment.
