Get it (url="http://"http://jinco.20m.com/resedit v4.0.sit")here(/url). I think it was never meant to be released or something, I dunno, get it here anyway.

It's a hack of v2.1.3. All it does in addition is view data forks and decompile CODE resources. Not useful..

No, it's a newer version of Res Edit. Andrew M was being is pesiistic, cynical and general unuseful self. in the words of Gav fck off (Andrew M).
There's loadds of different versions about, I've seen versions 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.4, 2.5 and 9.0, most of them just seem to be altered slightly, for editing plugs it makes no diference, 9.0 crashed on me a lot though.

v4 crashed on me alot. I was working on a small TC to play by myself and when i came to my fifth ship(ID 132) and put in all the info, save and close it. the next time i opened it all the data was erased! so i just use 2.1.3

Yeah, most versions of ResEdit that aren't officially from Apple (everything after 2.1.3) are likely to crash your computer from what i've seen and heard, besides, any features added are unlikely to benefit plug-in making.
I recall word, about two years ago, about an Apple official update of ResEdit that brought it up to par with the state of the MacOS at the time. But I haven't seen or heard anything since. Assuming that most of Apple's own programmers are using Resourcer in lieu of ResEdit.

v4 is just as stable as 2.1.3 on my computer (Rev D. Mac OS 9)...hmmm...

Can you post a mirror of it? I'm curious.

Ach. Sorry. I had my monitor set to greyscale when I wrote that reply. (don't ask.)
For some reason it won't d/l for me, think some one could e-mail it to me?

No, Andrew M was right -- it is NOT a newer version of ResEdit. Apple has not released a new version of ResEdit (even a beta or developmental release) in about 6 years.
What you have is some idiot's hacked version of ResEdit. God knows what they did to it.

Yep, andrew is right. Apple's last version of ResEdit was 2.1.3, though there is an apparently semi-official 2.4 that adds the ability to edit resource forks.
AFAIK there will never be another version of ResEdit.
And as for Apple's supposed release of a new version 2 years ago, that rumor comes from a mistake in the ADC newsletter, someone had put the wrong document somewhere and the release of ResEdit 2.1.3 was announced again by mistake.

I've heard of neither ResEdit2.4 nor the mixup announcement, and I've been a member of the Apple developer program for the last decade or so. ::
I had heard Apple was working on a ResEdit 3.0, but dropped the project long ago. I suggest Resourcerer instead.

If I have enough support I can write a EV:3 editing program in REALbasic, but I probably wont. It depends how good RB is at resource forks...
