New look for EV

I've released the first version of my Alpha Console plug-in, and am currently developing it's sequal.

I long ago grew tired of the standard EV side bar, buttons, target graphics etc. and being an interface designer by trade, decided to have a go at a re-think.

ACv.1 totaly re-vamps all aspects of the EV interface, even the game optoion screen has chainged. v.2 will contain, among other things, all new ship graphics, outfit graphics, planets etc.

Please download Alpha Console v.1 and let me know what you think. If you're sutibly impressed and would like me to porduce ACv.1 copatible target graphics for your plugins, drop me line and let me know.

Thanx 4 your time...

One of the things I despise more than cheat plugins are plugins which revamp the UI whtout asking. All it does is make me go in and strip everything out to get back to the default UI.

Do the community a favor and make the UI plugin separate from everything else. Think of it as a skin as opposed to a critical part of your plugin.

What do you mean...UI?

I personally think the Alpha Console plug is of great quality and works very nicely with the EV Interface...not to mention it looks cool. If you're saying you dislike plugs which re-vamp the games appearence and feel, then you're missing out on great game enhancers like Magma and other simpler plugs by Lightning Bolt software. BTW...looks do matter once you've played a game millions of times...=) PEACE YO!

UI = user interface. And I always keep Magma installed lately---but I resedited out all the patches to the interface so I'm back to default ambrosia. Yea, all me a luddit 😉

But ya' gotta love those sweet scan pics in Magma!

ACv.1 has always been, and will always be a stand alone plug, but I released it as a pe-curser to a handfull of other plugs that are at vairying stages of development (one's called Alpha Espial and is shaping up quite nicely)

Anyway, I understand what your saying foo12 and am not offended in anyway by your irational, nay fascist hatred of my plug-in. But I will say this:

Don't slag it off. Download it, try it, then slag it off.

God bless.

I don't have time for a flamewar. Petty name calling usually alerts me that i'm involved in something which has changed from an argument (in the classical sense) to a flamefest, something which I refuse to partake in. It's a plugin man. If one person doesn't like what you've done, so? At the very least, brush it off and let it go---concentrate on working along your chosen path. If two, three, four people don't like what you've done, reconsider your path.

One should be extremely careful of inserting words into others' mouths. How are my comments fascist? On point, there is nothing with a semblance to fascism here... look the word up in the dictionary, and read the definition. ... I did nothing of the sort, instead simple stating that I dislike plugins that change EV/EVO's UI and usually strip out the modifications with ResEdit---is this not my personal right? you claim to be "an interface designer by trade" so you should recognize that it is best to allow the end user to modify the user interface to fit their own personal needs. (I do hope that EV/EVO plugins won't start coming with a software license where modification of the software for personal use is PREVENTED under the DMCA.) For this I commend you, as many people do not have the knowledge/talent it requires to develop a customized UI for EV/EVO. However it is my own chosing wether or not I use that customized interface, not? In my original post, I had presumed (erroneously) that your modifications were part of a much, much larger plug instead of their own separate work. As such, I request that they be forked from the main plugin to allow MORE end user choice. (I may chose to play the plug without the new UI, and others may wish to use the UI and not play the plug. Of course, some will want both and they can have both.)

FINALLY--your plugin. Fine, not my style, but fine if you are a player who likes to mess with the UI. However, you need to lighten the graphics by about 20%. I'm looking at everything on a color calibrated monitor at 1.8 gamma (i.e. Mac standard gamma) and your changes to the game consol leave it too dark, nearly black. This would be good to fix. (and if I switch to my 2.2 gamma for web work, everything is black. "I see an Ambrosia game and I want to paint it black...")

S' ok, I know that I sometimes come accross as brash, and just a little hot headed. My appologies for that (I guess British sarchasom is lost on some people).

It's just that I take offence to un-informed statements. It wasn't that you didn't like the plug, after all I wouldn't have gotten through University with a 1st if I couldn't take critisisom, it's just that you had already formed your opinion B 4 you had even seen it.

In reference to the 'too dark' coment, fair play, it's something I shall give some thought to. However I designed the graphics spasificaly to be un-intrusive. I wanted the bars to be inconspicuouse, hence their dark colouring.

Any-who, a rateing of 81% and 721 DL's cann't be wrong.

It's cool, don't worry about it.

It was just a generalization based on prior experience. I've found that most changes to a UI annoy me---beyond EV*, even---so i generally do whatever I can to avoid them. (BTW, offtopic: why the hell does Toast need skins? It's a freakin' utility program for god sakes.) I run kaleidoscope, but only to run a Rhapsody style scheme (like platinum, only darker) because the grey is a bit darker which makes me happier in photoshop.

Still, it's too dark on a calibrated screen. I checked it both on my own screen (17" Apple ColorSync display; one of the graphite ones) as well as another, a 21" B&W; ColorSync which is internally calibrated and checked with a colormeter. It's too dark. Lighten it up a bit so the graphics are at the border of visually perceptible but ignorable.
