Free Strata 3D

I just received the latest (August) issue of MacAddict magazine and the CD contains a complete version of Strata 3D for free. You have to register the copy online and fill out a short questionaire, but the program is indeed free. The only slightly annoying thing is you have to go online to confirm your password everytime you start the program. After that though you can go offline and work in peace. Hope the information is useful.

Your blood freezes as you gaze at the creature on the viewscreen. Is it possible? After several painful attempts to pinch yourself awake you finally accept the reality of the heavily scaled monster rapidly approaching your tiny vessel.....

You can also download it free from the strata website. You dont need to go online every time you want to use it... thats how I did it anyways...

WARNING: I cannot be held responsible for the above, as apparently my cats have learned how to type.

Yes, but it is 22 megabytes to download, and not many people have fast modems...

Okay... I realise you're in the UK and likely paying per minute connect fees (I'm sorry, honestly--I do sympathize), so I wouldn't want to download 22 MBs over a modem. In other words, I'm not going to lecture you about "Just do it at night", etc. as I do those in the US. (HINT HINT folks. It's called hope and sacrifice.)

My advice? Either buy the package with the manuals (it's something like US$45 which would be... a little over 30 pounds?) and eat the surface freight. OR beg a friend with a faster connection (friend at university, perhaps?) to bag you a copy in proxy. Even PC users could do it as a binhex'd or macbin'd file will transfer fine on a uni-fork filing system.

FYI Strata is an amazing program and I encourage you all to give it a try. STEVO ships were made with StrataVision 4.0 (damn, we bought that) than converted it to Strata 3.0 when it was released. If you want to see the difference it can make, go to:

Aura effects for engine glows = YUM.
Plus it renders alpha channels, that means those engine glows will be adapted to EV3 quite easily.

Can't wait for EV3
