Key to get past northern territories

I got an "iron key" given to me by the mayor when I beat the cyclops..yet it did not show up in my inventory. It does not open the crypt up north..do I need a different key, and if so...what the hey is the iron key?

I dont remember a key from that mayor, he gives you a 'crown' that AC17 if you refuse the reward and he gives you 'rest' if you ask for it but if he dose give you a key it must be a symbalic 'key to the city' cuz the key for the N. Terr. is in the Learning tree 3rd lvl.

The Iron key you received should not have been given to you
by the mayor of Dernath. You should have gotten that key
off the body of the last Cyclops that you killed. It opened
the chests at the bottom of the map(that would have been
unopenable had you attempted to open them before killing all
the cyclops).

The key to unlock the northern territories lies at the top
of the learning tree(level 3). You need to complete the
Druid's mission sets before he will allow you access there.

Go see the druid and follow his mission sets(which lead
you to the elf and his missions).
