Project Plugin

In the not so distant past, the official EV/EVO web site wasn't updated that frequently. When developers released plugins, it would take quite a bit of time for them to actually be released on the web site.

Now of course, when you've finished something you've worked hard on, you are very anxious for people to see it, give you feedback on it, etc. The net result of this is that the plugin developers had to take matters into their own hands, create a whole web site/download area for their plugin, and hope people would find it.

I'd like to bring the archives back as a central, up-to-date place for people to get plugins of all sorts, and undo the slow damage of neglect that caused them to fall into disrepair over the years.

I call it Project Plugin.

I think we're finally starting to get things back in gear -- files uploaded to the new Add On Files area are generally released within a day or two, and things are looking up for EV/EVO fans looking for a central place to find all of the plugins their commanding little hearts desire.

As a result, I'd like to ask for your assistance. There are three major things you can do to help (and everyone in the EV/EVO community will benefit from the little bit of help you can give):

  1. If you are a plugin author, make sure that the latest version of your plugin is uploaded to the proper EV/EVO Add On Files area:

EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...evo/addons.html(/url)
EV: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS.../ev/addons.html(/url)

  1. If you are aware of a plugin of consequence that isn't available in our archives (for instance, F-25 and MAGMA were not available there until recently), please eMail me (andrew@AmbrosiaSW.com) or the EV.com admins (ev@AmbrosiaSW.com) the URL of where the plugin can be obtained so I can upload it to the archives (or better yet, upload it yourself). Please be respectful of the plugin authors, and give the plugin a good description, too:

EVO: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/evo/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...evo/addons.html(/url)
EV: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS.../ev/addons.html(/url)

  1. If you find a plugin that is in our archives, but has a bad description, no description, is corrupted, you have a problem downloading, etc., let our admins know about it so they can fix it! eMail the information to:

ev@AmbrosiaSW.com

...so the admins can get it taken care of with alacrity. Thanks for any help you can contribute to Project Plugin.

Are there any major plugins that are not in the EV Override Add On Files archives?

If so, let me know, so I can get them uploaded there.

Well, it would help very much if the plug-in section would be subdivided in a logical order. Instead pages 1-10, pages a-z when selected "alphabetical". Or if this is too much work to implement, a simple search-routine would be nice to locate a plug-in.

Just a thought.

I plan to (eventually) add the alphabetical listing to the page numbers; I'll need to hack up the script, though, and I'm a bit busy on other projects. I plan to have it look like this:

1-(Az..Br) 2-(Bu..Cr)

That'll make locating them by name easier.

In any event, back on topic -- are there any major missing plugins?

Yes. Where is Elite Frontiers? You might have a hard time tracking that one down, given that the website is gone and starlight doesn't seem to have it, but SOMEBODY must have a copy. It might be on an old macaddict disk... they did a blowout on EV plugs once, back in the old days, and Elite Frontiers probably made the cut.

I'm a little irritated by the lack of descriptions for many of the plugins. I'd help you write some, if you wanted.

Yes, if you could write descriptions for them, that'd be really, really helpful -- thanks.

I have a copy I downloaded last August--v. 1.1. in the readmw, there is a contact e-mail address for the author: justin@owl.u-net.com
Try asking him to upload it. If that doesn't work, e-mail me at judelk@yahoo.com, and I will upload the copy I have (although it may be an old version).
Here is a description I edited out of the readme.html file:

The Elite Frontiers Galaxy is much larger than the standard Escape Velocity one.
There are three main govenments, two of which are at war. This war forms the core of the missions in Elite Frontiers.

In addition though, there are several smaller independent governments and a number of corporate concers that have their own agendas and lead to subplots within the main game.

Endeavour with your career within the military of your choosing and I guarantee that the later stages of Elite Frontiers will give you the greatest challenge yet presented in a plug-in. I wanted a plug-in for everyone, but particularly a tough challenge with big ships, big guns and big bad enemies.

Well? Did you get it?
