I was wondering, who here is FULLY proficientin ResEdit?

What do you need done in resedit? There are quite a few of us who can do a LOT in that program.

I have an understanding of RedEdit EV/O fields, but I'm far from flag and math memorization. For making your own editor, can you program? Well, CodeWarrior (C, C++ & Java) by (url="http://"http://www.metrowerks.com/")Metrowerks(/url) is somewhere in the neighborhood of $500. Andrew M and I (maybe a few others too) use REALbasic ( (url="http://"http://www.realsoftware.com/")http://www.realsoftware.com/(/url) ), and I personally love it. If I can remember, the total program is somewhere around $350. Remember that you also need to know the programming language to program, so be ready to spend some time on it.

Heck, if you want to program something, just use MPW. It's Apples own c/c++ compiler, has a TON of documentation to help you out (thousands of pages) and it's free You have to know how to program in c/c++ first though, they don't provide documentation for that.
You can download it on Apple's ftp servers. I THINK it's located here:

Somewhere in there you'll find a 21 MB image called MPW-GM.img.sit or something, just download that. For documentation, try searching on apple's developer website.

Actually guys, I can't program C or C++, but it can't be too hard. I already know basic, pascal, and html, so I know how programming languages work.
As far as that money situation goes, however, I can't BUY anything because I'm broke, but I might download that MPW thing. What does MPW stand for, anyway?
It stands for Macintosh Programmers Workshop. It comes with all the appropriate c/c++ libraries for the macintosh toolbox. c/c++ is quite a bit less intuitive then pascal and especially basic. It takes a bit more to learn. It basically reads somewhere in between Pascal and Assembler, and has a lot of ugly syntax. If you want to learn it, I really recomend that you take a course on it,it will save you a lot of headache...
The primary advantage of c/c++ is first of all flexibility (overloading of operators), and that it compiles very efficiently, almost as good if you were to write the program in assembler in the first place. For this reason most professional application development has been done using these two languages.
Actually, I was supposed to be taking a course on it this year in Programming at school. But now they're saying that they don't teach it anymore because the Universities went crook at them, and wanted all the glory. Now I'm mad. :mad:
Still, where can I get a good book on it? I don't want to d/l that MacTech thing whatever it is. (I can't-no net connection at home).
Ok, here's some really good advice. If you have a net connection somewhere where you can download and install programs, get a telnet program. Then, gain access to a telnet server with a direct shell interface. There, you can program in C, C++, perl, tcl, etc. (usually) If you're interested, and you ask me nicely, I'll explain further.
A good book is SAMS teach yourself C++ in 24 hours, (or 21 days, or something).
As for Resedit, get the Resedit Beginners Guide for EV, and the EV/O Bibles.
