Starting the UE missions

Hi all, I got EVN a few years back and just rediscovered it. Got thrown into the Vell-os strand though <_< so started to try out the TC for EVO.

Here I am pootling along in my Helian, having done dozens of the UE delivery and rush delivery missions, and I still can't get the next mission of extracting informants or whatever it is, no matter how many bars I go into. I'm "Mostly Harmless" and have a Legal rating of Clean or Decent Individual in most UE places, but still haven't been given the first mission 😞 what am I doing wrong?

PS What happened to ev-nova.net?

EDIT: whoops, after the 32nd attempt, someone started chatting to me in a bar...

but my 2nd question stays.

Heh, badger...:p

And welcome to the forums, antipotato! Crack open a can of your favorite beverage and look around; there's much to be had here.

The ev-nova.net site went down some time ago. As far as I know, there hasn't been much talk of bringing it back.

Shame, it was pretty good back in the day...

I don't recall exactly how high a combat rating you require to be given the opportunity to rescue the defector from Pax (and, subsequently, the Paaren Station missions), but I know for certain you'll need more than "Mostly Harmless".

Once you can afford to, go get a Freight Courier from Crockett, and prepare for war. Bashing Renegades is easier, but you're rank will rise a lot faster when defeating Voinian foes. You could go out into the Crescent and buy some advanced equipment too, I suppose, although that option is considerably more dangerous.

Or do what I do to make combat rating and go crazy. I love to wipe out Voinian fleets in a standard Scoutship. :ninja:

haha nice. Although now I'm really confused. I got accosted in a bar on Outpost Alpha and told to go destroy a Voinian munitions fleet in Vorik... but when I get there both the UE ships that are meant to be helping me and the Voinians attack me! Neither side attacks me in any other system, and I'm a 'Good Egg' in most of UE places. Could this be to do with me trying to be sneaky? On the way to Vorik I stopped at Pax and the Voinian in the bar gave me the 'Aid the Voinians' Mission. I tried to create a couple of pilot files, one for the UE thread, one for the Voinians. But in the one I made for the UE thread, both sides attack me still 😞 Maybe it didn't work...

Just a thought, what're you flying? If you happen to have captured a Voinian ship the UE would not be able to resist the temptation to attack you. Other than that I don't know why it would be. I don't think accepting the first Voinian mission pisses the UE off much if at all. I've had pilots with that mission on the list while I work the entire string for the UE :).

antipotato, I'm just guessing here....

If you have a Voinian-friendly status in that system, then I can see the UE attacking you, even though they are on your side.

The problem here is that the engine used by the first two games allowed only one set of 'special' ships per mission, which are the ones which the mission can control, and which can be part of the mission goal. Since the goal is to destroy the Voinians, they have to be the special ships, so that means that the U.E. fleet can only be 'auxilliary' ships, which the mission can't control, and so behave as they would normally.

If you happen to have a good legal status with the Voinians in the current system, then they (and any other U.E. ships that show up) will consider you hostile, as Callide has noted — even if you also have a good legal status with United Earth elsewhere in the galaxy.

I think it was getting near its end anyway — the traffic was going down, and was increasingly about things unrelated to EV Nova. With a game that's now six years old and has difficulties on modern hardware, I don't think there's really call for two separate communities any more.

well, seeing how theres a relevant discussion going on here...

im plugging through the UE storyline, in order to start the F-25 plugin. I've been supplying the outposts, defending them, and "defeating the voinian fleets" (those missions that is...) for ages now. Am i missing something? Im in a UE destroyer, with no voinian escorts, and i havent started any other strings.... Thanks you guys...

I'm pretty sure you need to have at least a Dangerous pilot rating to start the Strand missions, not sure if you need the same for the Miranu.

Miranu on Station Pybin.

Strand threads:
Igadzra starts on Kitrack.
Azdgari on South Tip Station.
Zidgara on Pozdag 3.

Emalgha, I'm not sure where this one starts.
Captains of Freeport, starts on probably, um, Freeport?

Good luck!

Oh, and have fun with F-25. Make sure you have a fuel scoop or two (or whatever they're called in EVO) 🙂

oh, sorry, im not trying to start the strand missions- just trying to finish the UE one.

::::Update::::

ok, since there's not a nifty EVO guide on evula's lair, i just googled one. im on my way i think. thanks tho.

::::::::::::A NOTE::::::::::..

After having played all three of the EV games, since 2000, i was a little dissapointed when Nova came out- Not because of graphics, those were gorgeous- but probably because my expectations were a little high... But after going back and playing the original two, i realize how great Nova was/is. I think Nova is the first EV game thats fully functional/ not broke... In previous ev's: -Hitting the end of systems and having enemies drift outside of them, not able to be destroyed... in NOva: Sophisticated escort controls.... A functional hud for hypering.... just to name a few....

Nope. Only the Zachit require a Dangerous rating (or was is Deadly?).

Miranu on Station Pybin.

Technically, I don't think this is accurate. In fact, I believe that the starting mission to the Nebula missions can start anywhere (although there might have been a prerequisite mission starting from Blaga).

On Emalgha. Where else?

Actually, it starts on Iothe, and you've got to have quite the pirate reputation to start it.

Also, there are a few other strings Callide neglected to mention:

The North-Tip Renegade missions (start at Hizdriar).

The Voinians missions (start on Pax).

The Ski Resort missions (Start on Kirrim).

And the New Calcutta missions (Start on Himgro).

Ooooh, I forgot about these! Thanks for the corrections, though I thought I needed at least Dangerous to start the Igadzra string.

And the Zachit string starts on Outpost Zachit, ja?

I'm pretty sure you only need Noteworthy to start the strand missions, and deadly for the Zachit.

For the renegade ones, you need to have a negative rep in the systems they start (Iothe/Hizdriar, just kill some Militia ships).

The New Calcutta - Himgro missions need Noteworthy, and I think the Kirrim Prime ones need Dangerous.

Then there's the strings in UE space - UE cruiser string, starts in New Taranto bar, available after the UE mission to rescue the scoutship, and is often damn hard to get if you don't get it immediately after said mission.

Needle Jammer - Knox bar; Free Huron - Huron bar, and I think needs Above Average rating.

And it's the mission strings like those that really make EVO my favourite of the three, along with the massive amount you can do on any one pilot. Nova is just so limited, and the few minor strings in Fed space are really really short and dull by comparison.

Also, there's a one-shot mission to deliver Saalian Brandy to Yelts from Saalia, although its only available prior to starting the first U.E. Shipping mission.

Oh, and there's a funny (but useless) repeating mission in the Feviry system, wherein you can "save the lovable fuzz" of the behalf of the "fuzz liberation front" animal rights group. I'm dead serious about that: the mission actually exists, just don't expect to be paid for it, or the Miranu to particularly like you for performing the heroic deed.

Oh yeah :). Along with the Saalian Brandy one there are a couple of one-off Stellar Corp. missions involving dodgy deliveries - competition with FE and such. They're kind of hard to get in my experience.

Woah, prior to starting the first UE shipping mission? As in the very first thing in the game? I'm sure it's not that strict.

The Independent and Strandless areas have escort / extermination / defence missions that hark back to those in EVC; I always found it a shame that those existed on such a small scale in EVO. Some of my favourite times in the game have been spent in Independent / Strandless space.

no comment.....

Heh. 'Twas to be expected, there hasn't been much activity in this forum lately. Besides, you answered your own initial question. 🙂

Oh, there was a question! We were really just having fun reminiscing :).

Re progress in the main UE string, the supplying, defending and attacking around the outposts will not help you advance.

From memory, the main string goes: rescue voinian defector, (build Paaren Station on the side) rescue scoutship crew, check out Isled system & Dreadnought prototype.

Then later, I think it requires Dangerous, destroy Dreadnaught. Then things continue from the Emalgha side. So, where are you at in that :)?
