I have two this time
I have been unable to defeat the dreadnaught and also to rescue the defector from the Marx ship. I can't board his ship once I get in place or comm him? Any suggestions on both. My ship may just be too small? It is only a courier whatever. Trying to afford the UE big ship.
Welcome to the boards, Charah.
Your ship is not too small to get the defector. Just gotta be fast, lead the Voinians far away, then speed back and pick up the defector.
Good info here: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index.php...ue+the+defector
There are quite a few topics in EVO that deal with defeating the Dreadnought, with a few differenty ways to do it. I suggest doing a search. I did it in a Laizra with four Laizra escorts and two CWs.
I prefer getting money by looting pirates. And, if you have completed certain missions for the Miranu, Zachit missions are 100k each and easy. Others around here prefer trading.

and don't say u can't kill the dreadnaught... escorts escorts escorts. A bunch of people have done it in a UE fighter... and someone even did it in a krait I heard.
I did it in a crescent fighter, with the Monty Python strategy.

I used a Freight-courier with Neutron turrets. Cannons could work, I guess, but turrets do the job a heck of a lot easier, in my opinion.
Take out the fighters and other ships(Frigate, Cruiser) first. They are a pain in the neck if not taken care of quickly.
Make sure that you are drifting (away from Dreadnought) and in the right position(within your weapons range and out of the Dreadnought's) before you start firing on the Dreadnought. Adjustment of position may be necessary as the Dreadnought can catch up to you.
Be patient. Even with Caps Lock it takes a little bit. Time may vary depending on what weapon you're using.
Finally, someone tell me if I did something wrong in making this big post...
whenever i get a blockade running-like mission, i get one cheap escort at the spaceport as close to the system with the mission as possible, then jump into that system. Immediately press the "v" key, which tells your escorts to hold position, throw a missile at the enemies, then run around them (use an afterburner, forget the fuel and get a fuel scoop) and land/board/whatever. This way all the ships wil travel over to attack my escort before me, and by that time i will have finished the mission.
