escorts

Can you buy your escorts and little fighter bay peeps weapons and equipment so they have better weapons than the ones they come with when you capture them with? and if so then how?
Also how many crescents can you have in a fighter bay (I can only fit 3) and if you have enough space can you buy more than one fighter bay?
also my crescent warship escort that I cought only has 1 of the 3 crescent fighters that will fit in his bay, How do I put more in his bay for him?

Sorry for that bad spelling 😉

  1. No. Nova has limited ability to do this but none whatsoever in EVO.
  2. Yes, 3 is the maximum and no you can't buy more than one bay.
  3. Any escorts you have should have the standard amount of ammo and will replenish their stocks when you land on planets.

What I find a real bummer is that you can only have 6 escorts at the most. Someone should make a plugin that enables you to have as many escorts as you like.

I think that takes the fun out of the game- even having 6 takes the fun out of the game. What I mean is that it is more fun to me doing missions instead of becoming insanely rich dominating the planets and getting 6 incredible escorts in your choosing.

While you could get more escorts by using mission escorts, the limit of 6 for non-mission escorts is hardcoded into the game, and thus is not something that plugin designers can tweak.

You can have a maximum of one fighter bay of each type, though only three are purchasable. The other four bays come standard on certain ships.

So you could get 6 dreadnought escorts, 5 UE fighter escorts, 3 Crescent fighter escorts and 5 Voinian Heavy Fighter escorts, right?

Remember, fighters are different than escorts. You can order fighters to attack a specific ship and have them dock, repairing them.

Also, if you capture the dreadnoughts while they still have interceptors in their bays, you get the benefit of their interceptors as well (this is true of any carrier ship).

The three purchaseable bays that come to mind are:
Crescent
Azgari
Krait
Are you sure you can only buy three?

Actually, there IS a way to customize your escorts. It's expensive, however.

1)Buy as your own ship the ship you want as an escort
2)Customize/Purchase all outfits you want on it
3)Capture another ship
4)Select "Use as My Ship"

Your old ship is now an escort, complete with outfits. Unfortunately, you must pay it by the day, and the pay is calculated by the TOTAL VALUE of the ship (all your expensive modifications are factored in).

You can get some fighters without the bays, as well.
1)Buy the bay you want.
2)Buy the fighters you want
3)Blast off, and launch fighters
4)Land, and sell your bay

You still have the fighters, and they remain as long as they don't die. If you "recall" them, you will not be able to launch them again.

Not quite, you could get 6 Dreadnought escorts, 5 UE Fighter fighters, 3 Crescent Fighter fighters, 3 Krait fighters and 6 Azdara fighters. If you hang on to certain missions like "Transport Defector" you can get more escorts.

Where on earth did you get that idea from?? It's complete bollocks. The pilot file only keeps track of two bits of information about your escorts: Ship ID and whether it was captured or purchased. Captured escorts (including your original ship) don't need to be paid anyway.

You don't have to hope you disabled a carrier before it got all its fighters away; you can use a tractor or repulsor beam to move disabled fighters over disabled motherships. When you do this, they're taken aboard, and magically repaired! When you subsequently board the disabled mothership, you can steal the fighters just as you'd normally steal ammo.

As you are no doubt aware, you need the right 'launcher' to see ammo in the ship's inventory... so you'll need the right bay in order to go fighter grabbing. Still, using this technique you can boost your fighter complement above the restriction normally imposed by the bay's designers.

The trick is to disable the mothership before it launches its fighters.

on 1 of my pilot files, I have a crescent and UE bay on a UE cruiser....

I guess UE bay doesnt count... cant buy or sell it.

That's an awesome cheat! It gives 6 Azdaras, 3 Crescent fighters and 3 Kraits for no space! And, if you make them stay near your ship, you can shoot the enemy constantly, and it will attack you instead of the escorts. So there's a good chance they won't get destroyed. (Well, maybe the Kraits will, but that's not so important).

Are you sure it works? It would be pretty interesting for my modded Dreadnought project. I've definitely got to try that...

Yes, I do it myself. There are problems with it, however.
1)You cannot sell Krait bays.
2)It's expensive.

Mainly the cost is what keeps me from doing it 24/7. You loose money from buying and selling the bays, so with cressent fighters at 300,000 a head makes the whole trick cost 1,233,333 credits. If one dies, you have to buy the bay all over again. But yes, I know it works (at least in 1.0), I do it a lot.

As far as the "Use as my ship" trick I mentioned earlier goes, I would not be surprised if it doesn't work. I only tried it once, and I thought it worked, but I might be wrong, I dismissed the escort soon after.
