and another question
I've recently started playing the EVO plugin for EVN. I've captured a ship I want to sell. How do I do this?
Also, I took on the mission to destroy S.S. Blisters for a group way up north. Blisters is toast, but now they want me to disable a renegade one jump to the east. I have no trouble doing that, but before I can jump back, other ships fly up and annihilate it. I'm supposed to leave it for others to tow back, but the mission fails every time. I've tried this about 30 times now.
Hmmm...I can't help you on the first one, but for the second I had the same problem. The easiest way is to just jump back immediatly and leave the renegade to any Zidigar passing through(usually they will only manage to disable the ship before you enter another system).
In Override captured ships couldn't be sold, just released. I haven't played the Nova port, but I'm fairly certain there is a way to emulate this with the Nova enginge, and presumably the porters took advantage of it to remake the Override experience. If there is a way then it's simply target (option-tab) the escort and hail it ('y') to get the escort communication dialog.

I believe there's a plug for the EVO port which adds in the ability to sell captured escorts. I know that the EV port does not include the sell captured ships feature without a plug.
Lit Nerd
Thanks all for the responses. I was afraid that was the case when I contacted the escort and there was no option to sell. I'm so used to this feature in Nova, it caught me by surprise to find that I couldn't make a hefty profit from the capture.
It seems a shame to turn a renegade loose on society so I'll probably keep him enslaved for a while.
As for the question about the failed mission, I'm going to try heading for the far reaches of the system in hopes that the renegade will follow and the other ships will lag behind. That way I might have a chance of disabling the ship and getting out of there before some other ship adds the coup de grace.
The only thing stopping you from selling escorts in the ports is the button is hidden. Push 'S' and it should still work
Thanks, Guy, for putting me on the right track. After several tries which didn't work, I've found the method which does work.
First, the shipyard which you enter must sell the same ship as the one you want to dump. Then while hovering over the planet before landing, I select the escort I want to sell and hit the "Y" to communicate. I then hold the "S" down while clicking "end communication." I then go to the shipyard and select the model I want to sell. I hold the "S" down again while clicking "leave." I leave the shipyard and leave the planet and, upon exit, I got the message which said, "You have sold an escort for 125,000 cr." (Helians only fetched 25,000.) Sweet!
Perhaps not all those steps are neccessary, but I'm not arguing with success.

If you have looted cargo when you release an escort, they'll take some of it with them.

It's not cheating if the game allows you to do so without plugins. Besides, some reward for my effort to capture a ship is reasonable enough. Would you have me turn these renegades back on society to plunder again? No way! Sell the ship and let the planet's police deal with the offending pilot.

I thought the whole point of this was that you are using a plugin...

Woah.... There's a difference. The plugin is Ambrosia's which turns EV Nova into EV Override. It's still the Atmos game. I'm not using someone's third party plugin which makes escorts saleable when the game doesn't allow it. Nor am I allowing my ship to have extra cargo, more weapons, etc. Those are what I consider to be "cheat plugins."
I obviously own a registered copy of EVN which allows escorts to be sold. ASW has said, "Here guys, since you already own EVN, here's EVO for your enjoyment." Are you saying that if I sent in my money for the original EVO, I would not be able to sell my escorts? If that's the case, then ASW has given us something which looks like EVO, smells like EVO, but is really not EVO.
Whichever way it turns out, I'm not going to feel guilty about the sale. I don't consider it to be a cheat.
Don't worry, no one really thinks you're cheating. The only reason the button is hidden is because they tried to make it as close as possible to the original game. Of course there are some things which can't be reproduced exactly under the Nova engine but they've done the best they can. Qaanol likes to exploit bugs in Nova that allow you kill/disable/capture supposedly invincible perses
Do you have the (unofficial) EVO port update? You can get it here while we wait for the addons pages to be updated.
Oh and just FYI, Matt Burch makes the EV engine and Peter Cartwright made the EVO scenario.

I've never done the leviathan-kills-Matt/Frandall thing! I've only heard about it, and it was removed in an updated a while back. Nor have I ever used a plugin with a weapon that deals enough damage to disable them.
I've soloed a Scarab with a Shuttle, had 7 Kestrels in my fleet, gotten a cyan Thunderforge with Polaris and Vell-os tech, and beaten the Rebel string in a Viper, not to mention the whole dominating-almost-the-whole-galaxy-in-an-unarmed-Manta thing, and in Override I've beaten the Dreadnought and the Rock in a Shuttle, had a fleet of 7 Dreadnoughts, gotten the Nadir with a trade-in value over 40 million credits, and, um, wait... I had a point when I started. Nevermind.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, Rubber Ducky. In EVO it wasn't possible to sell escorts. You're not cheating, but neither are you getting an experience that smells like Override. Oh well. It's all good. Have fun playing!
Hi. I just have a question that's kinda related to this topic. I have a hired escort ( a scoutship ) that I don't want anymore. It's been a while since I've played and I don't really remember everything. It won't let me target him and initiate communication. How do I make him go away?

I believe that holding option while tabbing through the ships will allow your escorts to come up (it's been several years since I played it, so I could be wrong), unless you're playing the EVO to Nova port, in which case you can just click on the ship.
option-tabbing also works in Nova. A ship-click works too, but isn't necessary.
I realize, but using the mouse is much faster than option-tabbing, which is why I opt for that method when playing Nova.
I prefer playing mostly with the keyboard and rarely use the mouse. To me it's faster.
geocaptain3:
Welcome!
T to select ships in system.
Option T to select escorts.
Y to communicate.
You can change this in the game prefs, after launching the game, before entering your ship.

You don't dominate planets much, do you...
