Hi, I was progressing quite nicely in Frozen Heart when I came up to a mission that was impossible to complete from the planet that it was issued (See "FH - Aphrodite to Earth in 5 days, but it's 7 jumps" thread). - a mission designed to repair my somehow damaged status with the Nine Worlds
I eventually failed the mission (and on another try from the same planet, aborted it) but I can't seem to pick up any mission thread type missions, just simple cargo deliveries and the occasional diplomatic negotiations.
Martin Turner told me in the previous thread that this mission was not planet-specific and could be picked up elsewhere and suggested Gold Rush in the Sirius system. I've been there numerous times, and found no replacement mission for this one.
Where do I go from here? How can I find the mission thread again. I've logged about 2 hours of playing time, visiting the furthest outreaches of the galaxy without any result (apart from a nice Triac 8 anti-missile jamming device) and no bar type missions.
Any ideas anyone?

Some of the missions you can't go back and get again if you fail them. This is probly one of them. I hope you have a pilot file backed up somewhere. Martin Turner wasn't kidding when he told you to back up your pilot file about every 10 mintues.

No going back?
That's a bit final isn't it?
The best pilot I ever had had completed all the missions for all three strands and did all the voinian, zachit, human renegades, did the skiing mission, the new callcutta mission and then ran out of fuel in a nebula after selling my scoops for a mission.
You might be pissed now but after a while you will go back to the game and love it once more.

Things are not as bad as they seem.
The mission you fluffed isn't actually part of the main sequence - it's there as a kind of insurance for people who have been evil -- most of the FH missions depend on you having a positive legal status with the Democrats.
You have a couple of options. Ejecting into space (assuming you have a lifeboat) will clear your legal status with everyone. But don't do it if you've got a really pricy ship.
Otherwise, go and shoot up asteroids in Altair. The Democrats will love you for this (at least, I think they will). If all else fails, hire yourself a fleet of shuttles then hyper into a Democrat system. A few minutes later the pirates will show up. Blast them to smithereens and watch your legal status begin to climb again.
PS, I'd be kind of interested to know how bad your legal status is right now.
Regards
Martin

wow that's evil. You should have open res-edit, given the system dude, plundered it's fuel and jump away.

Actually, I've had some bad experiences with xenophobic governments (like Aliens in EV and navigational hazards in FH) -- whereas most governments reward me for destroying these, I've had the experience of Independent (no govt ID) systems starting to hate me for this, though I can't remember which exact government the Nine Worlds are (I think they're Democracy, not Independent, in which case it'd be okay). I think this is just an EV/O engine bug though.
But yeah, the second idea is pretty good. And hiring shuttles for trading is rather cheap, though you do tend to get more money from missions than trading (I'm thinking about raising the base prices of the commodities in a plug-in so that trading can be more profitable).

The next mission for FH starts at the system Riga (down south) And you will find that you get the 'clear legal status' mission no matter what your legal status with Democrats actually is.

This topic died three years ago, there was very little need to resurrect it.
Sorry. I didn't realize that the topic would return from "the grave" when I posted a response.
That's ok, you're learning.
I posted without checking the topic date, I should have known better. <_<

I know better, but I'm posting anyway. See how I laugh. Ha ha ha.
Anyway, this brought up warm fuzzies from the week I sat in front of my computer every spare moment I had being immersed in the excellent works of Martin Turner. I still have a post-it note somewhere in my room where I wrote down one of the passwords to unlock a file.
