UE Fighter as a trading ship

I know it's stupid, but...

What is the best way to outfit this ship I captured? I've sold the rockets and its launcher, bought 2 fuel tanks and added 2 cargo expansions. Is this good enough?

Well, I'm not sure what else you could do to make it a better trading ship. It's not really meant to be used as such, I'm sure you've discovered.

That said, you might want to stick with lighter armaments like needle missiles and your cannon of choice.

But at least it's cooler-looking and it can fend off "basic" renegades (Helian, Krait), but if a Turncoat comes, I can quickly jump out...

P.S- I thought the UE Fighter came with 4 Blaze Cannons standard?

True...I do enjoy flying the UE Fighter around early in the game, it's definitely a nice change after flying transports all along. And it easily could face down the human renegade ships. And if you go find phase weapons...well, that's a whole 'nother story on its own.

Can't remember how many blaze cannons the fighter comes with, but if you like 'em, keep 'em.

Run from a Turncoat? Why?

I beat the Dreadnought in a UE fighter. Took almost half an hour.

That kinda works, and in fact I did this too, though my favorite is to turn a cargo ship into a warship. The only problem I see though is that it does not seem very realistic. I mean, carry 21 tons of cargo on a ship that weights 10...

Remember, in space anything can fly 😛

Hm, I usually equip an UE Fighter with Voinian cannons. As far as I can judge, they're the strongest. Blazes are too short range and it's almost impossible to beat a Voinian with Phase Cannons, as they do almost no damage to armor.

I'm agreeing with everything Arion says here.

Sell everything you have, and just get cargo expansions, is the best advice I can give you. You'll be fast enough to escape almost any attack, and certainly those around UE/Voinian/renegade space. Although if I were you I'd just get an Arada.

Some of the fighters have a huge amount of space, once you strip out the launchers. As I have observed in the past, there's enough space in a Voinian heavy fighter to mount some of the smaller fighter bays! Imgaine meeting one of those...

Those of you who have been around long enough to remember the 'crew of one challenge' may have needed to fit out a UE Fighter with cargo pods, in order to complete some of the missions. Presumably you then sell the ship, in order to revert to a more useful setup.

God alone knows how MartiNZ (?) managed in his Krait... I stuck with the Shuttle. A real Rolls-Royce, compared to that itty-bitty blue thing.

Hey, the Krait is a real effective ship for heavy-duty trading. I made my millions with it!

I forget the name of the system, but it has two planets Thehirt and Gribin (sp?). You hire lots of big freighters, and load up on metal. Go to the other planet and sell, then buy equipment. Go back and repeat.

The Krait trump many other ships here because (I believe) a stock Krait can out-fly almost all missiles, giving you enough time to get to the other planet.

I don't know how to properly quote so I'll just copy and paste what Arion said

"Hm, I usually equip an UE Fighter with Voinian cannons. As far as I can judge, they're the strongest. Blazes are too short range and it's almost impossible to beat a Voinian with Phase Cannons, as they do almost no damage to armor."

The Emalgha, who live north west of UE worlds, sell cannons that are awsome against armour (which means they are awsome against vonians) but completely sux against anything else. They are also really heavy (15 tonnes), barely any range and you cant get them in turret form. But, if you fight vonians often it's worth getting them.

A really good use for those Emalgha Cannons and Turrets is to get a heavy cruiser and load up on them. Your heavy shields will protect you until you can get close emough to unleash the Emalgha weaps and strafe the Vonians.

In some cases I'd leave a single blaze cannon in the weapon mix. The Voinian weapon is just too accurate... which means that you'll sometimes find that your enemy is in a blind spot. With a blaze cannon, you've got more of a spray of rounds, and a hit will cause a knockback that will send an enemy fighter back into the stream of shots from your other weapon(s).

Blaze cannons are also good when you do missions where you get swarmed by Kraits as you will be attacking more than one at the same time.

Another good weapon mix is Phase cannon(s) with Emalgha Cannon(s). The Phase cannon gets the sheilds down then the Emalgha Cannon destroys the armour

My favorite UE Fighter is the one with everything removed in favor of space mines.

It's not the 'best', but it's so cool...

Another person who flies into combat facing backwards! Well done! (In Nova, I tend to always face away from the enemy so I can overfly them, afterburn to a sudden halt, and then sit on their tail...)

Twenty tons will handle Frontier Express missions quite nicely. That, and no Voinian can catch you.
