Any news?
Hi all, I have been absent from the boards for a long, long time. Did Martin Turner ever announce whether he had completed and/or cancelled Frozen Heart 2?
Just curious.
Thanks, BD
No, he haven't.
Sup, BD. Martin got involved with a whole bunch of stuff like local and EU politics and other such things. Needless to say, that postponed the project.
Yes, FH2 has obviously been postponed, but rest assured that Martin's still working on it. There's been a little buzz going on, but otherwise I believe Martin is working quietly to deliver this, shall we say, gem, to us.
Yes, yes, the Martin's project has been postponed for the moment (he does have a life you know...) but he DID say that it was fesible to release a bare-bones FH2 at the current date early this summer, and late august he started asking for beta-testers. Too many factors are in the way to determine progress or a release date, so don't ask. Just remember the platnum rule:
a la ambrosia: "It will be ready when its ready"

Hmm... if FH2 doesn't look like coming out, maybe I could release (unofficially) that Rigellian plug-in I made...
Doubt it though. Kauthor, aren't you working with him on the project or something? If I could forward that to you then at least one person will have played my plug-in. It shames me to think I made 50 good missions that only I have every played, plus the story I made was great.

I'll wait forever if need be... though I've been getting these urges to play FH/FF recently, and I haven't got access to a Mac.
Maybe you guys could help me out...
In the final mission, to destroy the black hole, I need to have 15 tons of empty space for that bomb... However, awhile ago I bought extra armor, which can't be removed and uses up 5 tons. So it's impossible for me to carry the bomb, and no way for me to finish the mission.
Will I need to fix this in resedit? What will I need to do? I don't want to play all the way through the thing again...
If memory serves, the documentation actually covers what to do. I think there's a place you can go where you can get a "refit" which is basically a fresh Tach Fighter with nothing on it.
Remember the place you went to graduate early on in the game? I think that's where you need to go.
Or yeah, you can use ResEdit to make either the armor or the bomb not weigh anything and you don't really have a problem anymore.
Update: FH2 has gone through one cycle of beta - it's in abeyance for a little while as I haven't yet managed to figure out how to solve a major problem that was chucked up by the first beta testers.

Mmmmmm...gone through 1 beta cycle...
Good Luck troubledhooting MT, take as long as you need ,we prefer a plug that keeps us entertained and has replay value over a plug ridden with bugs that make it either TOO easy or unplayable. Keep up the good work, we're counting onn you to make FH2 10x better than FH1
Holy crap! Frozen Heart 2 is coming? Maybe I'll have to go ahead and buy EV Nova after all...

I believe it's that one starbase somewhere in the southwestern region of the galaxy...the name escapes me at the moment.

You know, I really don't see this as a problem -- Martin's always been quite thorough about his plug-ins. And while our expectations might be something 10x better than the original FH, quite honestly, even if it was "only" as good as the original I would still be overjoyed to see it. And experience it (play would be too weak a term).

Yeah, I have to say, anticipation of FH2 was honestly one of the considerations I made in buying Nova. Um, right...no pressure, no pressure.
I have to say that I'm coming to the conclusion that the Nova engine was never actually finished -- I think it was only debugged as far as making the Nova game work. Of course, the EV and EVO engines went through several revisions and even then some of the claimed features still didn't work. But the Nova engine is much more complicated and things are not necessarily easy to reproduce from platform to platform.
I haven't been around for a while, but I have to say that I enjoyed reading the short Frozen Heart novel, played (to a limited extent - a while back) the original FH, and look forward to this new one when and if it's released.
Good luck.
Oh, and can I ask exactly which Empire the Rigellian Empire was modelled on? It seems to be a bizarre mixture of French, Soviet and British Empires.
It's a good novel, but if you haven't received any publishing offers yet then I thinkI can understand why - perhaps publishers find it too much of an in-depth political/religious story. It's a shame that the unintellectual stuff sells.
Good luck with FH2 and any future ventures.
Speaking of publishing, there definitely have been a rise of some rather easy on-demand publishing methods that you can pursue online nowadays. I suppose it may not really be worthwhile, but I'm sure there are a good number of people in the EV community who would be more than willing to purchase a real hard copy of the novel (as opposed to the cheap typesetted versions I've been putting into binders recently). Granted, that would mean a long editing/revision process I suppose...

One comes to that conclusion when one works on a plug long enough. I often encounter problems like ugly black lines on my ship graphics. One of my ships uses a picture RID that it shouldn't use and some ships use the right names but wrong graphics. Takes a lot of work to counter these problems.
Can we please just let this thread DIE? Our contined babble will not speed up MT's progress, nor will he tell us any more than what we alrready know. Patience shall be rewarded, not haste. IF good ol' MT is going to listen to our suggestions or tell us more he will do it on his own time. Now is not that time, so be quiet and wait. Hype ruins games and mods alike, do not spoil FH2 for yourself, savor the time it eventually comes.

I don't see much speculation, at least not from me.
I was asking questions about his novel, not what FH2 will be like.
