UE R&D; I suggest that you take a look at (url="http://"http://stu.beloit.edu/~morgant/EVOFaceLift.sit")this(/url) plugin for the port of EV:O to Nova, the graphics are amazing and I suggest that you ask him for help. It is called facelift.
BTW this TC looks awesome and I might be able to do a little bit for it, my email address is up the top

Yes...Facelift. I saw the EVN webboard topic, and as soon as I get the opportunity, I will download it (21 megabytes is nothing to laugh about if you still have dial-up). Perhaps he would be willing to make me new graphics, non? But I still have a long way to go before I'll be needing those.

On the theory that more input > less input, I too would like to have a look at the current status of the mission texts. Though I won't necessarily be able to help much with questions of style (occasional flashes of brilliance do come upon me), grammatical points and typographical errors are right up my alley. Please feel free to send me the text at sebell31@yahoo.com.

UE R&D;: You said to contact you if I had any questions. Well, firstly, I'm not sure whether or not you plan to change the graphics (and possibly more) to make it look more like Override or not, so I'm wondering if I should change "Mission BBS" to "Mission Computer". Also, what do you mean when you say "(GO TO LAST MISSION)"? And, finally, there is no particular deadline for this, correct?
(This message has been edited by orcaloverbri9 (edited 08-31-2003).)
Infinate and Raithun...are you sure you want to read? With the greatest respect, you may enjoy the story more if you wait until the plug-in comes out. If you still want to proof and read, e-mail me, and I'll gladly send you the texts.
Orcalover:
I'll probably leave the sleek EVN interface the way it is. I'll probably ask for the permission of use of someone's sleek EVO for EVN graphics.
There is NO deadline for any of this as of yet (and there probably won't be any deadline for quite a while).
GO TO LAST MISSION means after you finish the mission in question, the player will be offered the last mission in that particular set. I may change Section 1 so there will be no branching anyways, so don't worry about it too much.

I actually meant writing the plug with Mission Computer, EVONE or Nova tools. I can't do missions, graphics but I will happily so some descs, coding and so on. I wouldn't mind doing ship, planet or bar descs.

Yes definetly go with the EVN interface but a few changes here and there would be quite welcome.
And last I think you should get a web board for this plug at (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net")EV-Nova.net(/url) or (url="http://"http://www.evula.org")EVula.org(/url)
Okay, so: I leave "Mission BBS" as is, there is no deadline as of now, and the "(GO TO LAST MISSION)" is just a note to yourself. Got it.

Eh? What?
That made no sense to me.

That was pretty inscrutable. I couldnt make sense of it either with the first read. But it was explained in his first post. Orcalovers earlier post: Well, firstly, I'm not sure whether or not you plan to change the graphics (and possibly more) to make it look more like Override or not, so I'm wondering if I should change "Mission BBS" to "Mission Computer". UE R&D;: I hope you change that section 1 has no branching. Branching adds to replayablity, but also adds confusion. If a player fails one mission, he is suddenly in another part of missions because he failed one. He cant know this before it happens. Its not fair to expect the player to succeed every mission with first try. Most times a mission is avaible again if failed. What I have seen from other plug-ins and EVs, unavaible if fail is used very sparingly. Is Section 1 the UE missions? Then its even more reason, as they are the starting missions.
------------------ I am eager to try to answer mission questions
Branching will be eliminated. I'm starting to intensely dislike it myself.
Hope this clears up many of the issues (now the missions should run more or less linearly). If there are any more questions, feel free to ask :).
Yes, section one is the UE missions (I recieved it to edit). Or, starts that way, anyway. Luckily, it's the cargo missions, so I'm not spoiling the Navy/Secret Ops.
UE R&D;: I have found a large problem. Though I am only on part 4 or 5, I noticed (via the wonderful Find feature) a mission text involving a duel. I could not help but notice how long it was. According to MissionComputer, mission texts should not be any longer than 1024 bytes (characters), or, in other words, a kilobyte. I could theoretically create a quicktime movie to substititute, but I unfortunately have no authoring tools. I could also theoretically place in a picture, but a) I do not know in what way the picture will appear, so I cannot be sure of how well a picture would be able to hold a mission text that long. Personally, (unless you can find a way around it) I would take out the thoughts/emotions that are not necessary and keep in only the actions and important thoughts/emotions, not only because it will make it shorter, but also because Matt Burch and Peter Cartwright never really made long descriptions, instead keeping them straight and to the point. I ask only because I am sure you worked hard on it, and would not like it to go to waste unless necessary (although I do have a backup file).
Hold! He changed the plug from EVO to EVN. In EVN, there is long descriptions. I think it must goe with the rules.
------------------
kauthor is right, although I mentioned it somewhat obscurely. The plug-in is for EVN exclusively now (and EVN had really long descs), so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Yes, I know (I read every post before volunteering), and I tested it. Apparently, MissionComputer has problems even with EVN dëscs. But you're right, it's a mistake. I did a word count and it said 1288 so yeah, it should be fine...
(a word count on only one dësc, by the way)

Oh, and I have a comment about the plot (yes, it has nothing to do with the missions). And it's not about how it says that the UE/Emalghan attempts failed (though I find that odd). I noticed that you said 10 years had passed. When was the character supposedly born? Because you mention in the missions your father taking you to Paaren Station as a kid...adn, assuming the character is in his 20s or 30s, that would mean that as a kid, Paaren Station would be unfinished, would it not? Just thought I'd point that out...I have an eye for details, and can't get any sleep if they aren't worked out or planned to be worked out (really). You may wish to pick some higher number that sounds as good as 10.
Hmmm...did I say that it was 10 years after the UE/Emalgha attack failed? If that is what I said, I would have assumed that Paaren Station was completed sometime before that failed attack, and if the character was (at the time the story begins) 20 or so years old and Paaren Station (at the time the story begins) was 10 or so years old, the character could have visited the station anytime after he turned 10 or so...
If there's a fault with my reasoning, please let me know.
Well, actually, there is a possible flaw, but not guaranteed, I now realize.
The "mercenary captain" coould have finished the station, and then proceeded to the Dreadnought/Emalgha Alliance strings. This could not possibly take 10 years, if done one after another.
Am I just thinking way too much like we're playing the original game?
Oh yeah, and one more thing...does EV Nova allow unregistered users to use plugins, or is it yet ANOTHER thing you're not allowed to do?
Unregistersed users can not use plugins!!! BTW do not even think about pirating it, somebody did and he was even making a TC for it!!! I mean no offence here but Thedecline did and he got ip_banned from the board and alot of other bad stuff happened to him.
Oh and you can edit your posts. It's up with the email buttons and so on.
